About The Role
Job Description: Health & Safety Specialist - Kisumu Role Overview As the Health & Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for overseeing on-site safety operations, ensuring compliance with national regulations, and driving emergency preparedness. You will play a key role in identifying hazards, conducting safety audits, implementing training programs, and fostering a proactive safety culture across the facility. Key Responsibilities Hazardous Operations & Daily Safety Management: Approve, supervise, and record high-risk operations; conduct daily hazard inspections and monthly electrical/combustible materials audits; implement safety incentive and disciplinary programs to drive employee engagement. Fire Safety & Emergency Preparedness: Manage and update the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and part-time safety officer lists; supervise weekly fire system inspections (extinguishers/hydrants) and coordinate quarterly fire drills. Compliance, Audits & Incident Management: Perform comprehensive safety risk assessments and audits to ensure compliance with national regulations; lead incident investigations, track corrective measures, and ensure closed-loop resolution. Safety Training & Culture Building: Establish and deliver onboarding safety training; share accident case studies to drive reflection; act as the internal and external safety liaison to cultivate a robust site safety culture. Job Requirements Education: Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. Professional Certification & Experience: NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification; at least 3 years of safety management experience, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment. Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, accident prevention, regulatory compliance, and safety audit reporting. Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills, with a proven ability to influence and train employees at all levels to strictly adhere to safety protocols.
