About The Role

ABOUT CODEWAY

Codeway builds category-leading consumer AI apps on mobile and web, at global scale.

600M+ downloads. 60+ apps. 400+ builders across Barcelona and İstanbul. Completely bootstrapped. No board. Profitable since year two.

Small teams move faster than big ones. But they need big resources to win at scale. Nobody starts from zero. The problem decides the solution, not us.

We turn category wins into six focused vertical companies: Wishlabs (AI Creativity), Wellture (Wellness), Learna (Education), Sparked (Media), Cosmic Jam (Entertainment), and Catalyst Apps (Utilities & Productivity). Each has full ownership and the depth to go further than anyone else in its space.

Codeway HQ powers them all. One platform. One team that finds and grows builders. One set of guardrails. Every idea born here starts with an unfair advantage: the platform, the people, and the profits of every product before it. That's the system.

Turns out you can do both.

Move like an indie. Hit like a giant.

THE ROLE

The Accounting Lead will own day-to-day accounting operations and compliance across our multi-entity, multi-jurisdiction group structure. Reporting to the Head of Accounting & Tax, the Accounting Lead will lead a team of accountants based in Barcelona and Turkey, and will be accountable for the quality and timeliness of the monthly close, tax compliance, and audit readiness in all jurisdictions. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will review and sign off the team’s work, step in on complex topics, and build the processes, controls, and contingency cover that let us scale. The role offers significant exposure to international accounting, tax, transfer pricing, group reporting, and ERP implementation.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

  • Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team: set priorities, review work, give regular feedback, and build cover and contingency so that no process depends on a single person

  • Own the end-to-end accounting cycle across all group entities, including accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, accruals, and prepayments, ensuring timely and accurate completion against a defined close calendar

  • Own the month-end and year-end close, reviewing journal entries and reconciliations prepared by the team in accordance with applicable accounting standards, and driving continuous improvement in close speed and quality

  • Own the recording, reconciliation, and elimination of intercompany transactions across group entities

  • Own tax compliance across jurisdictions: prepare, review, and ensure timely filing of periodic tax returns (including VAT and corporate income tax), working with external tax advisors and handling tax authority queries

  • Prepare and manage VAT refund claims, ensuring complete and audit-proof supporting documentation

  • Support transfer pricing compliance by ensuring accurate intercompany transaction records, agreements, and documentation

  • Ensure the group is audit-ready at all times: own the audit calendar and supporting schedules, coordinate with external auditors, and follow up on findings until closed

  • Drive the unification of accounting principles and policies across jurisdictions, managing the reconciliation between local statutory requirements and group reporting

  • Develop, document, and maintain finance policies, procedures, and internal controls, including segregation of duties and contingency plans for key processes

  • Lead the accounting side of the group ERP implementation and optimization, including data migration, testing, process documentation, and automation of manual tasks

  • Work closely with FP&A, Legal, HR, and Procurement to provide timely and reliable actuals and ensure consistent processes across the group

  • Provide support on ad hoc financial analysis and reporting

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • 7+ years of experience in accounting, including at least 2 years leading or managing a team.

  • Strong working knowledge of tax compliance in multiple jurisdictions, including VAT and corporate income tax, with experience in filings, refund claims, and dealing with tax authorities.

  • Proven experience preparing for and supporting external audits in a multi-entity group, and maintaining audit-ready records.

  • Experience with a major ERP system is required; NetSuite is preferred.

  • Fluency in English and Spanish is mandatory.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

  • Strong understanding of core accounting principles (Spanish GAAP / IFRS), financial statements, group reporting, and internal control procedures.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills: ability to delegate, coach, and build accountability in a team working across locations and time zones.

  • Exceptional precision and thoroughness in managing and reviewing large datasets and financial documentation.

  • Proven ability to identify discrepancies, trace root causes of variances, and implement corrective actions.

  • Process improvement mindset, with an interest in automating manual accounting work.

  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage simultaneous deadlines during peak closing periods.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive Compensation. Because great work deserves great pay.

  • Full Private Health Insurance. Unlimited coverage.

  • Free Breakfast & Lunch. Every day at Codebrew, our in-office coffee shop, with barista coffee and healthy snacks all day long.

  • Meal & Transport Support. Monthly compensation that actually covers a proper lunch and your daily commute.

  • A Top-Notch Office. In the iconic Edifici Estel, right in the heart of Barcelona.

  • Flexible Schedule. We care about your impact, not about tracking your minutes.

  • Top Tech Setup. From a high-end laptop to the software and gadgets that help you thrive.

  • Wellbeing & Growth. Gym membership, English & Spanish course support, and a game corner for well-earned breaks.

  • Pet Adoption Support. We cover your new pet’s essential vet costs in the first year.

  • No Dress Code, Great People. A dynamic, talented, passionate team. Come as you are.
