Software Development Engineer II

Job Summary: As an SDE-II, you will design and build high-performance services that power mission-critical authentication, subscriptions, payments and content delivery systems across JioStar's platform. You will operate at the intersection of scale, reliability, and real-time decisioning - supporting live sports, premium entertainment, and personalized experiences for millions of users. This is a high-ownership, high-impact role best suited for engineers passionate about building for scale and business impact.

About the Team: JioHotstar's world-record-breaking streaming platform serves audiences across India, the UK, Singapore, Canada, and other international markets.

Our International team builds the technology that enables global expansion, powering region-specific experiences while leveraging a common platform architecture. You'll work on subscriber growth platforms, market-specific product innovations, and scalable frameworks that support diverse business and content requirements across geographies.

Reporting To: Engineering Manager

Key responsibilities

● Build robust, secure, and scalable microservices to power JioStar applications ● Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code using best practices, conduct unit testing and participate in code reviews

● Ensure sub-second server response times and implement appropriate data stores - relational, document, key-value, object, or graph - as well as index stores and messaging systems

● Take ownership of running and maintaining cloud infrastructure

● Continuously evaluate relevant technologies and influence architecture and design discussions ● Collaborate with Product Managers and cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deploy high-quality software solutions that meet business objectives ● Guide and mentor junior engineers and interns on functional and domain areas

Skills and attributes for success: ● Proficiency in Java, Golang, or Python ● Experience building distributed domain-driven microservices ● Strong understanding of database and storage fundamentals ● Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), messaging systems (Kafka), and CI/CD pipelines

● Experience working on large-scale production systems, with a strong focus on performance and reliability is a plus

● Ability to translate ambiguous product requirements into well-structured, scalable technical solutions

Preferred education and experience: ● Bachelors/Masters in Computer Science or a related field with 2-4 years of experience in backend development
