Occupational Health Examiner (Physician's Assistant)

• Occupational Medicine is looking for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Certified Physician's Assistant to provide clinical coverage on a casual (as-needed) basis.
• THIS IS A CASUAL POSITION WORKING A MAXIMUM OF 900 HOURS PER CALENDAR YEAR.

Key Responsibilities

• Assists in administering and performing the daily operational clinical requirements at the NNSS or North Las Vegas medical facility.
• Monitors, records, and reports symptoms or changes in patients’ conditions.
• Consults and coordinates with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
• Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients’ responses and conditions.
• Assists in the coordination of activities to prevent accidents.
• Instructs employees on topics such as health and wellness education, disease prevention, hygiene and the use of prescription medications and equipment.
• Supervises less-skilled nursing or healthcare personnel.
• Participates in Workers’ Compensation/Insurance Claims reviews.
• Executes routine and emergency medical procedures.
• Refers, when necessary, patients with occupational-incurred injuries or diseases to the appropriate panel of consultants, and non-occupational patients to their private physicians.
• Performs pre-employment, periodic, and termination physical examinations and examines patients returning to duty following hospitalization or convalescence to ensure their recovery and capability to return to work.
• Maintains contact with referred patient employees’ private medical providers.
• Coordinates and participates in immunization and related preventive medicine programs.
• Plans and participates in Occupational Medicine Department forums and discussions relative to occupational medicine and employee medical management.
• Makes periodic visits to work sites and facilities to become familiar with employee job tasks, worksite environments, and related health hazards or potential health hazards.
• Assumes responsibility for the supervision and advanced training of allied health professionals.
• Stays abreast of current information regarding occupational health hazards including radiation safety procedures, hazards, and operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Master's degree in Nursing (for NP) OR Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies required
• Current state license as a Nurse Practitioner OR Physician Assistant, must be licensed to practice in Nevada
• Current DEA registration and prescriptive authority
• At least 3-5 years of related progressively responsible experience in primary care, occupational medicine, urgent care, and/or emergency medicine settings, Board certification in relevant specialty area preferred.
• Able to utilize independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems and compose technical correspondence and reports.
• Able to prioritize and schedule multiple activities of the division.
• Able to communicate with all types of people in a tactful, professional, and effective manner while screening and maintaining confidentiality.
• Able to remember extensive policies, procedures, terminology, schedules, personnel, and other details.
• Able to deal with pressure of handling multiple tasks, complains, frequent interruptions, and time constraints.
• A combination of equivalent education, training, and experience may be considered Required Skills and Abilities:
• Able to exercise independent clinical judgment and autonomous decision-making

within scope of practice

• Demonstrated ability to diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions
• Proficient in performing comprehensive physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing treatment plans
• Able to prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions in accordance with state regulations and collaborative agreements (where applicable)
• Strong clinical reasoning skills with ability to apply evidence-based medicine to patient care
• Able to prioritize and manage multiple patient cases while maintaining quality care standards
• Excellent communication skills for patient education, family counseling, and interdisciplinary collaboration
• Able to maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
• Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) systems and medical documentation
• Commitment to continuing education and maintaining professional competencies
• The primary work location will be at Losee Road, North Las Vegas, with as needed travel to the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
• Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
• Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Ability to obtain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification credential under the Department of Energy Order 206.2, ‘ Identity, Credential, and Access Management ,’ and Supplemental Directive NNSA SD 206.2, ‘ Implementation of Personal Identity Verification for Uncleared Contractors .’

Annual salary range for this position is: $98,883.20 - $148,324.80.

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
