About The Role
Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.
Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer , which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence . Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security.
We currently have an opportunity for a High frequency Communications Technician in Canberra
to provide advanced technical and professional support using your broad communications engineering and maintenance knowledge.
What You’ll Do
This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including
- Develop, review, and assess technical packages, reports, and product performance against requirements.
- Execute complex communications technical and maintenance assurance activities in line with agreed priorities, milestones, and outcomes.
- Exercise assigned technical authorities and ensure compliance with technical regulatory requirements .
- Apply technical knowledge to identify risks and uncertainties, implement corrective actions, and support continuous improvement in communications systems and processes.
- Ensure safety aspects of Defence capability are considered and incorporated into all technical activities.
- Build and sustain positive relationships with internal Defence stakeholders, external industry partners, and suppliers to influence outcomes and ensure effective collaboration.
What You’ll Bring
- Relevant higher education or vocational qualifications in communications engineering or equivalent industry experience.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate fluently, both orally and in writing, and present complex information to diverse audiences.
- Strong problem-solving, risk management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience in Defence sustainment and technical assurance activities.
- ASDEFCON Suite Experience
Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
