Senior Engineer - Oracle Database Administration

About The Role

To administer, monitor, optimize, and support enterprise Oracle database environments across on-premises and OCI platforms. The role focuses on database availability, performance, backup and recovery, security, patching, capacity management, cloud database administration, OCI monitoring, connectivity, operational readiness, and SLA-driven production support.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Oracle databases across production and non-production environments.
  • Knowledge of OCI Database Management, Monitoring, Logging, and Alarms.
  • Understanding of OCI IAM, compartments, VCNs, private endpoints, NSGs/security lists, and cloud connectivity.
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) DBA operations.
  • Perform database installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, cloning, and migration activities.
  • Monitor database availability, capacity, sessions, storage, jobs, and performance indicators.
  • Undertake SQL and database performance analysis using appropriate diagnostic reports and tuning techniques.
  • Plan, execute, and validate backup, restore, recovery, and disaster-recovery procedures.
  • Manage database users, roles, privileges, auditing, and access controls in line with approved security requirements.
  • Investigate incidents, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and contribute to problem management.
  • Support application releases, deployment validation, change implementation, and rollback planning.
  • Maintain database inventories, configuration records, SOPs, recovery runbooks, known-error records, and operational handover documents.
  • Coordinate with application, infrastructure, security, and vendor teams while meeting agreed SLAs and change controls.

Technical Skills

  • Oracle Administration: Oracle Database 12c, 19c, or later; installation, configuration, maintenance, patching, and upgrades. Including OCI database services, Autonomous Database, database monitoring, performance management, backup and recovery, scaling, and troubleshooting of OCI-hosted Oracle databases.
  • Performance and Capacity: SQL tuning, indexing, execution plans, AWR, ASH, ADDM, storage, tablespace, and capacity management.
  • Backup and Recovery: RMAN backup, restore and recovery; recovery validation and operational runbooks.
  • High Availability and DR: Oracle Data Guard, standby database operations, switchover/failover support, and replication awareness.
  • Security Administration: User, role and privilege management; auditing, hardening, access review, and security compliance support.
  • Monitoring and Support: Oracle Enterprise Manager or equivalent monitoring, alert handling, incident resolution, RCA, and SLA-based support.
  • Scripting and Documentation: SQL, PL/SQL and shell scripting awareness; SOPs, configuration records, and technical handover documentation.

Good To have

  • Experience with Oracle RAC and clustered database environments.
  • Exposure to Oracle Exadata or engineered systems.
  • Experience with cloud-hosted Oracle database services.
  • ITIL-aligned production support and change-management experience.

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across technical and service-management teams.
