English-language Subeditor

Join Contexte, an independent media outlet dedicated to providing policy professionals with in-depth, factual news and analysis. As a part-time freelance English-language subeditor, you will review and correct copy in our daily briefing and published articles, ensuring clarity and accuracy. This role offers flexibility in work location and hours, with a focus on early morning shifts to meet production deadlines.

• Review and correct the copy in the morning daily briefing, articles, interviews, and infographics published on Contexte EU.
• Spot typos, trim unnecessary verbiage, and resolve errors to ensure clarity and understanding for readers.
• Interact with the team of French- and English-speaking journalists as needed, or act independently to improve copy.
• Outstanding **attention to detail**: someone able to spot errors and abolish redundancy, jargon and waffle.
• A **native-level English speaker**, with a passion for presenting technical topics simply and engagingly, in a clean, crisp style.
• **Significant experience** working in **drafting**, **editing** and **proofreading**, preferably in a newsroom or other journalistic environment.
• Ability to **work under pressure**, **delivering reliably** to tight daily production deadlines.
• **Constructive** and **reactive** with colleagues, communicating clearly and diplomatically, while also working independently and professionally.
• Experience with EU affairs is an advantage but not a requirement.
