Head of Accounting & Tax

Join MODIFI, a fast-growing fintech company, as the Head of Accounting & Tax. In this role, you will lead our financial reporting, audit, tax, and consolidation functions, manage our global accounting across various group companies, and oversee an internal team as well as external service providers. You will report directly to the CEO and work alongside the Head of Treasury and Head of Corporate Finance. • Lead and manage the financial reporting, audit, tax, and consolidation functions for MODIFI's various group companies.
• Oversee the end-to-end execution, preparation, and closing of standalone and consolidated financial statements under IFRS, ensuring precision and compliance.
• Establish and enforce internal financial controls and standard operating procedures, leveraging modern AI tools and automation to streamline financial processes.

• Uncompromising Eye for Detail: A deeply hands-on mindset, getting dirty in the ledgers and prioritizing top-quality execution over delegation
• Certifications: Ideally active CPA, ACCA, ACA or local equivalent certification (e.g., Wirtschaftsprüfer / Steuerberater)
• Technical & AI Proficiency: Deep expertise in IFRS reporting, multi-entity/multi-currency consolidations, and audit management, combined with proven mastery in applying AI/automation tools to modern accounting, bookkeeping, and QA tasks
• Location & Travel: Based in Amsterdam or Berlin, with full flexibility to spend the first few months on-site in Berlin for onboarding if based in Amsterdam
• Big 4 Background: Strong foundation built over 4+ years at a Big 4 (EY, PwC, Deloitte, KPMG) or top-tier audit firm (Manager/Senior Manager level)
• Experience: 5+ years of finance/accounting experience, with at least 3+ years in a team management capacity
• Communication: Fluent English skills with executive presence to manage external providers and report directly to C-level stakeholders
