Position Overview
As a Senior Energy Consultant, you will lead and contribute to GHD’s energy sector work across the Middle East, applying your experience across electricity networks, renewable energy, energy storage, system integration, energy strategy and technical advisory.
You will independently deliver and coordinate technical work, integrate multidisciplinary inputs and translate complex engineering matters into clear findings and practical recommendations. Assignments may span feasibility and options studies, network and substation design and delivery, technical and techno-economic assessments, due diligence, Owner’s Engineer services, procurement support and construction-stage services.
The role combines technical delivery with project coordination, client engagement, proposal development and the mentoring of junior professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to multidisciplinary energy projects across electricity networks,
- Contribute to the business plan for Energy growth strategy in the Middle East with local leadership.
- Lead and contribute to business development activities and leading proposals to provide technical support to win and deliver projects.
- Lead and contribute to multidisciplinary technical workstreams across electricity networks, renewable energy, energy storage, system integration, energy strategy and related infrastructure.
- Deliver feasibility and options studies, engineering assessments and technical advisory assignments from initial scoping through to final recommendations.
- Assess project requirements, technical configurations, technology options, operational constraints and interfaces with existing infrastructure.
- Undertake, review or coordinate relevant technical analyses, including power-system, grid-integration, energy-modelling and techno-economic studies.
- Support the planning, design and delivery of electricity network and substation projects, including option selection, design coordination, technical specifications, equipment interfaces, procurement and construction-stage input.
- Review designs, calculations, specifications, equipment data and technical documentation for alignment with project requirements, applicable standards and good industry practice.
- Deliver technical due diligence and Owner’s Engineer assignments by evaluating technical, delivery and operational risks and developing proportionate recommendations.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs and engage confidently with clients, utilities, developers, contractors and other project stakeholders.
- Manage assigned scopes in accordance with agreed programme, budget, quality, governance and health and safety requirements, including serving in a project manager role for projects.
- Prepare and review clear technical deliverables and support proposals, client development and other business development activities.
- Mentor junior professionals through technical review, coaching and knowledge sharing.
- Maintain external relationships with industry peers, OEMs, Contractors, and Clients.
- Contribute to the consistent application and continuous improvement of technical tools, methods and delivery standards.
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Energy or Power Engineering, or a related discipline. A relevant postgraduate qualification would be advantageous.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience in consulting, utilities, project development, engineering, EPC, Owner’s Engineer or technical advisory environments.
- Recent Middle East BESS project experience is advantageous, and/or relevant international BESS experience in utility scale or solar-hybrid projects exceeding 50 MW
- Familiarity with BESS techno-economic modelling, including an understanding of key performance metrics such as RTE, SOH, or availability
- Established relationships with Tier 1 EPCs and OEMs is a plus
- Familiarity with the ecosystem of BESS project contracting such as LTSA, IPP, ESA, or ISP forms of contracting
- A demonstrated understanding of the BESS compliance requirements in Middle East projects and the application of international standards or best practices
- Demonstrated technical depth in one or more areas such as electricity networks and substations, renewable energy, energy storage, grid connection, system integration, energy modelling, energy strategy, due diligence or project delivery, together with the ability to coordinate interfaces across disciplines.
- Ability to interpret complex technical information, identify material issues and develop clear, evidence-based recommendations.
- Good understanding of relevant international standards and engineering practices. Experience with Middle East utilities, regulatory frameworks or project-delivery environments would be highly regarded.
- Experience using, reviewing or directing work undertaken with relevant engineering, modelling or data-analysis tools, such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, PSS®E, PSCAD, PLEXOS, Python or similar platforms, as relevant to the candidate’s technical specialism.
- Strong written, presentation and client-facing communication skills, with the ability to explain complex matters clearly and contribute to proposals and business development.
- Good interpersonal skills; e.g., relate well to colleagues, clients and business contacts, and can influence them to achieve positive results
- Strong record of delivering technical excellence
- Proven experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing concurrent assignments and exercising sound technical, commercial and professional judgement.
- Chartered Engineer status, or progress towards an equivalent recognised professional accreditation, would be advantageous.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Occasional regional or international travel may be required.
