• dedicated professional to join our team in providing critical addiction services to
• our community.

POSITION OVERVIEW

• We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Paqtnkek Certified
• Addictions Counsellor to provide individual and group counseling, education, and
• support services to individuals affected by substance use within Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw
• Nation. This role will involve working closely with community members, families,
• and other service providers to ensure culturally competent care, fostering healing,
• and promoting recovery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide one-on-one and group counseling to individuals struggling with substance use issues.
• Develop and implement personalized treatment plans that incorporate cultural traditions and values.
• Offer crisis intervention and support services as required.
• Facilitate and lead prevention, awareness, and educational programs for the community.
• Collaborate with other healthcare providers, social workers, and community leaders to ensure comprehensive care.
• Maintain confidential and accurate records of client progress in compliance with ethical and legal standards.
• Engage in professional development to stay current with addiction treatment methodologies and culturally relevant practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Certification in Addictions Counselling from a recognized institution.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in addiction counseling, preferably within a First Nations setting.
• Strong knowledge of substance use, treatment methodologies, and recovery models.
• Ability to integrate traditional cultural practices with contemporary counseling techniques.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills.
• Knowledge of Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation's culture, language, and community dynamics is an asset.
• Experience working with diverse populations and an understanding of the unique challenges faced by Indigenous communities.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
