About The Role

Some of what you will do

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Supply Chain Strategy & Engineering, the Senior Engineer, ODE will contribute to the design, evaluation, and implementation of distribution and fulfillment-related processes and technologies. This individual will play a key role in researching and supporting automation initiatives, leading targeted improvement efforts, and working closely with stakeholders across operations, IT, and external vendors to bring engineering solutions to life. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional with a passion for operational excellence and applied problem solving.

Specifically, You Will

  • Hands-on experience in warehouse systems (WMS, ERP, TMS, MES, WCS) and RF & scanning technologies.
  • Contribute to warehouse reconfiguration, re-slotting, and picking technology implementation projects.
  • Evaluate current technology and equipment, providing recommendations backed by ROI analysis.
  • Assist in designing and integrating advanced warehouse automation equipment such as ASRS, AMRs, and robotics.
  • Support the development and documentation of strategies to improve productivity, reduce costs, and enhance safety and morale.
  • Apply time study methods to support the development of engineered productivity standards.
  • Collaborate in a LEAN distribution environment to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Help develop action plans with facility teams and track the impact of changes for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate effectively with on-site contractors and consultants.
  • Contribute positively to cross-functional team initiatives and discussions.
  • Assist operations by helping document and standardize workflows and procedures.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative manual, automated, and mechanized solutions for Staples Canada distribution network, including facility layout design, equipment selection, and operational cost analysis.

Some of what you need

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, operations, or a related field required.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, process improvement projects, and workflow analysis.
  • Familiarity with lean practices, Six Sigma tools, and warehouse management systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, Power BI, Looker, Tableau, Excel (VBA + Power Tools), Visio, AutoCAD LT, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding programming logic is a plus.
  • 2–5 years of experience in logistics, warehousing, or automation engineering.
  • Hands-on exposure to warehouse automation systems, robotics, or data-driven workflow improvements.
  • Experience in e-commerce logistics or 3PL environments is an asset.

Physical demands/working conditions

  • Office environment – Hybrid, with 4 days onsite in Richmond Hill, subject to the hybrid policy.
