About The Role

As our highly valued Director, Balance Sheet, your role will lead Great Southern Bank’s balance sheet strategy and risk management activities, helping strengthen our financial resilience and supporting our purpose of helping every Australian own their own home. Reporting to the Treasurer and as a member of the Treasury Senior Leadership team, you’ll lead the Balance Sheet team and be accountable for the effective management of liquidity, funding, capital and interest rate risk in the banking book (IRRBB). You’ll make an impact by: Leading, coaching and developing the Balance Sheet team, building capability, accountability and a high-performing, collaborative and risk-positive culture Owning the development, maintenance and execution of the Bank’s liquidity, funding, capital and IRRBB strategies Leading day-to-day liquidity and funding management to ensure the Bank can meet its operational cash flow requirements Managing the Bank’s liquid asset portfolio and ensuring it supports liquidity requirements across normal and stressed scenarios Managing the Bank’s IRRBB position and executing hedging strategies in line with risk appetite, strategy and financial objectives Overseeing counterparty credit exposures, ongoing credit reviews, cash and collateral management Leading recommendations for Balance Sheet Risk Appetite, supported by clear analysis and substantiation Partnering with Product and Finance to execute the Bank’s funding strategy through the tactical funding plan Using market and economic research, financial analysis and forward-looking insights to inform balance sheet decisions and respond to emerging risks Preparing high-quality papers, strategies and insights for senior stakeholders and key decision-making forums, including ALCO, Board Risk Committee and the Board Building strong relationships across Treasury, Finance, Product and Risk while maintaining clear first-line ownership of balance sheet risks Do things differently with us This is a senior leadership opportunity at the heart of Great Southern Bank’s financial strategy and resilience. You’ll have ownership of critical balance sheet activities and play an influential role in how we manage liquidity, funding, capital and interest rate risk in an evolving economic, regulatory and market environment. Working closely with the Treasurer, senior leaders and key committees, you’ll bring together commercial judgement, deep technical expertise and market insights to influence important balance sheet decisions. You will have the opportunity to build capability within Treasury, developing your team through coaching, cross-skilling and succession while strengthening collaboration across the Bank. To succeed in this role, you will have: More than 10 years’ experience across Treasury, Markets, Finance or Market Risk, with deep expertise in bank liquidity, funding, IRRBB and capital Demonstrated leadership and people management experience, with the ability to coach, develop and build high-performing teams Strong experience developing and executing Treasury risk management strategies, including IRRBB hedging, liquidity and liquid asset portfolio management Strong commercial and analytical capability, including financial modelling, macroeconomic and market analysis, and a detailed understanding of Treasury and retail banking products Proven ability to navigate complex issues, communicate technical concepts clearly and influence senior leaders, committees and stakeholders Strong knowledge of relevant prudential standards and experience with ALM and Treasury dealing systems, supported by relevant tertiary and postgraduate qualifications such as CFA, FRM or Masters
