Environmental & Social (E&S) Manager

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Social (E S) professional, at Senior Officer or Manager level, to lead the environmental and social performance of our terminal operations in Basra, Iraq. This is a field-based role requiring day-to-day operational presence on site, combined with structured, high-quality reporting and liaison with head office and international financial institutions including the IFC. The terminal operates under a financing structure aligned with international standards, and the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the site's ongoing compliance with the full suite of IFC Performance Standards, and for managing the relationship with IFC , other lenders and relevant governmental authorities on E S matters. Key Responsibilities Own and manage the terminal's Environmental Social Management System (ESMS), ensuring alignment with IFC Performance Standards (PS1–PS8) and applicable Iraqi environmental/social regulation. Lead implementation and monitoring of the site's Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP), tracking progress and closing out commitments against agreed timelines. Conduct field-based monitoring of environmental performance (e.g., emissions, waste, water, biodiversity considerations) and social performance (labor practices, community relations, grievance mechanisms). Manage community engagement and stakeholder relations locally, including operating a functioning community grievance mechanism. Lead the environmental and social oversight of contractors and service providers, ensuring compliance with the (ESMS), IFC performance standards, conduct contractors and internal audits and inspections, monitoring corrective actions implementation. Develop and maintain the company’s environmental and social supply chain management, including suppliers and contractors risk assessment, screening, monitoring and take reponsibility of the supply chain risk register. Prepare clear, high-quality written reporting (in English) for head office, shareholders, and IFC/lender supervision — including E S performance reports, ESAP status updates, and incident/non-compliance reporting. Act as the primary on-the-ground point of contact for IFC and/or other lenders during E S site visits, audits, and supervision missions. Coordinate closely with the Health Safety Manager and terminal operations teams to ensure integrated E S risk management. Support due diligence and reporting related to specific environmental risk areas relevant to port/terminal operations (e.g., dredging, marine environment, sediment/sand-related considerations, water discharge). Build local capacity and mentor terminal staff on E S requirements and international standards over time.
