JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36 Hours: Monday-Friday between 7am-5pm (shift varies) 36 hr/wk

JOB SUMMARY

This individual is employed by St. Tammany Health System (STHS) for the purpose of coordinating the care of and treating wound care patients discharged from St. Tammany Parish Hospital main campus.

Responsibilities to include

Nurse Practitioner: Diagnose and treat acute, episodic or chronic wounds under the supervision of the outpatient wound care clinic physicians in a clinic or facility setting. Focus on health promotion and disease prevention. Provides clinical services and develops and implements plan of care in conjunction with collaborating physicians. May order and interpret diagnostic test such as lab work and imaging. May prescribe medication within scope of practice.

Physician Assistant: Diagnose and treat acute, episodic or chronic wounds as a part of a healthcare team both in an office and facility setting under the supervision of the outpatient wound care clinic physicians. Care planning, follow-up visits, updating treatment plan including medication, ordering and interpreting lab, imaging and other diagnostic testing in the medical record as appropriate and within scope of care. May prescribe medication within scope of practice.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing or Physician’s Assistant Program
  • Current Louisiana State APRN or PA Licensure
  • Current ACLS certifications through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off.
  • Strong computer skills
  • Eligible for limited prescriptive authority in Louisiana as approved by St Tammany Health System.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to be courteous and respectful when interacting with patients and family members.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain continuing medical education per licensure and clinic protocols.
  • Must have a valid and current state issued driver’s license. Must have reliable transportation for work with current safety inspection (brake tag) and vehicle license plate registration.
  • Must maintain and provide proof of automobile insurance (at his/her own expense) in amounts which meet at least the minimum liability coverage limits required by the state of their residence.
  • Clearance of driving record check; Driving records shall not contain any of the following: a suspended or revoked driver’s license, 3 or more moving violations in the past 36 months, 2 or more accidents in the past 36 months, 1 or more instances of driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI) within the past 24 months, at fault in a fatal accident within the past 5 years, leaving the scene of an accident within the past 36 months, and/or reckless driving within the past 12 months.

Preferred Qualifications: 3-5 years of related experience and certification in wound care preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 20 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
