Job Purpose: The Maintenance Engineer – Electrical is responsible for ensuring the optimal functioning, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment within coal mining sites. This role involves planning and executing preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime and enhance equipment reliability. The position requires the application of safety standards, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the use of digital tools to streamline maintenance processes. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient operations and continuous improvement in electrical systems performance.

Maintenance Engineer - Electrical - Coal Mining

Electrical System Maintenance and Repairs

  • Plan and implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, and power distribution panels.
  • Conduct regular inspections to assess the performance of electrical equipment and prioritize maintenance activities based on system health.
  • Perform root cause analysis for equipment failures and develop action plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and electrical codes during all maintenance activities to protect personnel and equipment integrity.

Project Management and Site Supervision

  • Manage small to medium-scale electrical upgrade projects, ensuring completion within budget and specified timelines.
  • Coordinate with contractors and suppliers to source electrical components and oversee on-site installation quality.
  • Monitor project progress and report key milestones to the management team for timely decision-making.
  • Conduct safety inspections on electrical installations and enforce compliance with industry standards.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records of all electrical maintenance activities, including repair logs, inspection reports, and equipment documentation.
  • Prepare detailed reports on equipment conditions, preventive maintenance schedules, and compliance audits.
  • Ensure all electrical maintenance tasks are performed in compliance with local regulatory standards and safety protocols.
  • Regularly update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for electrical maintenance to reflect industry best practices.

Stakeholder Coordination and Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with production, safety, and procurement teams to align electrical maintenance activities with operational objectives.
  • Facilitate regular meetings to discuss system performance, safety issues, and project updates with internal stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing maintenance data to enhance equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians to build their technical capabilities in electrical maintenance.

Digitization and Automation

  • Implement digital tools and software for tracking maintenance schedules, equipment health, and work orders.
  • Leverage data analytics to optimize maintenance planning, reduce energy consumption, and extend equipment life cycles.
  • Conduct training sessions to enhance team proficiency in using digital tools for predictive maintenance and real-time monitoring.
  • Analyze data from IoT sensors to predict potential failures and optimize preventive maintenance strategies.
