JOB SUMMARY The Gardens & Grounds Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, management, maintenance, and continuous enhancement of all landscaped areas, gardens, green spaces, outdoor public areas, and estate grounds across the property. This role ensures that all outdoor environments consistently reflect the highest standards of luxury hospitality, creating exceptional guest experiences while preserving the property's natural beauty and environmental sustainability commitments. The Gardens & Grounds Manager oversees gardening operations, irrigation systems, specialist machinery and equipment, external contractors, suppliers, and the landscaping team, ensuring that all outdoor areas remain immaculate, safe, and aligned with the brand's luxury standards. CANDIDATE PROFILE Education and Experience Associate or bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Horticulture, Landscape Management, Agriculture, Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related discipline; minimum 1 year of experience in landscape, grounds, estate, or garden management within hospitality, private estates, luxury resorts, golf clubs, or similar environments. Professional knowledge of horticultural practices, irrigation systems, plant health care, landscaping techniques, and grounds maintenance equipment. Experience managing gardening machinery, irrigation infrastructure, suppliers, and external contractors. CORE WORK ACTIVITIES Landscape & Garden Management Develop and implement annual maintenance plans for all gardens, lawns, floral displays, trees, hedges, and landscaped areas. Ensure the estate grounds are maintained to exceptional aesthetic standards throughout all seasons. Plan and coordinate seasonal planting programs and landscape enhancement projects. Monitor the health and condition of all plants, trees, and green spaces, implementing preventative and corrective measures when required. Maintain botanical diversity while preserving the property's design vision and heritage. Grounds & Estate Maintenance Oversee the maintenance of all outdoor public and back-of-house areas, pathways, driveways, terraces, and outdoor guest spaces. Ensure all grounds are safe, clean, and visually appealing at all times. Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance requirements and improvement opportunities. Coordinate with Engineering and other departments regarding infrastructure impacting outdoor spaces. Irrigation & Water Management Manage irrigation systems to ensure efficient water usage and optimal plant health. Monitor water consumption and identify opportunities for sustainability improvements. Coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs of irrigation networks and related equipment. Equipment & Machinery Management Oversee the operation, maintenance, servicing, and replacement planning of all gardening machinery and grounds maintenance equipment. Ensure equipment is used safely and in compliance with company procedures and local regulations. Maintain accurate records for servicing schedules, inspections, and asset management. Vendor & Contractor Management Source, evaluate, and manage relationships with landscape contractors, nurseries, horticultural suppliers, and specialist service providers. Negotiate contracts and monitor vendor performance to ensure quality, cost efficiency, and compliance with company standards. Supervise external contractors working within the property grounds. Budget Management Prepare and manage the annual operating budget for gardens and grounds. Monitor expenses and identify efficiencies without compromising quality. Support capital expenditure planning for landscaping projects, irrigation systems, equipment, and sustainability initiatives. Sustainability & Environmental Stewardship Promote environmentally responsible gardening and landscaping practices. Implement sustainable solutions related to water management, waste reduction, composting, biodiversity, and integrated pest management. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company sustainability objectives. Health, Safety & Compliance Ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations. Conduct risk assessments and implement safe working practices across all gardening and grounds operations. Maintain accurate documentation related to machinery, chemicals, permits, inspections, and training records. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Gross Annual Salary: min 39,900 - 42,000 € (the gross annual salary is calculated on a pro-rata basis when employment covers only part of the year). The 13th and 14th month payments are included in the gross annual salary and are accrued on a pro-rata basis, depending on the actual period worked during the year.
