Position Title: ACCOUNTANT
Reports to: Vice President/President
Summary
Assists in preparation of monthly accounts, account payments, receivables, and monthly profit and loss statements. Also includes maintenance of balance sheets, subsidiary ledgers, and leading financial projects. Prepares journal entries, monthly closing and accounting analysis and supports management in carrying out responsibilities in the accounts department.
Job Duties
- Records financial transactions and maintains accurate financial records
- Reviews and resolves all accounting discrepancies and irregularities
- Reviews and ensures payroll is recorded weekly
- Prepares cheques for the signature of the vice president and president
- Manages petty cash funds & submits for replenishment according to policy
- Reviews NIB reports before final submission to management for sign off.
- Compute VAT taxes owed and prepare VAT tax returns
- Manages, trains, and develops direct reports
- Manages accounts payables and receivables
- Ensures collections are performed weekly; reviews, reports, and advises on delinquent accounts
- Ensures financial database, electronic and physical filing remains current with client and vendors information
- Provides analysis and reports on projects/jobs when required
- Ensures monthly inventory spot checks, monitors, and reports discrepancies
- Prepares and presents monthly management reports
- Prepares annual financial statements and provides completed financial statements
- Ensures that approved financials are submitted to the bank annually by the required date
- Prepares client contracts, submits to management for review and signature; ensures delivery to clients
- Prepares, inputs, and analyzes budget
- Advises staff regarding financial reporting and accounting policies
- Assists HR with recruiting accounts staff
- Becomes familiar with the financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops
- Maintains confidentiality of financial information
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- Four years accounting experience, financial reporting, and general ledger entry
- Attention to detail and accuracy in accounting procedures
- Good communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to work individually or to be a team player
- Leadership and strong management skills
- Ability to devise solutions to complex problems
- Highly motivated, self-driven and ability to work without supervision
- Good time management skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
- Proficiency in use of accounting software like QuickBooks
