We are seeking a Senior Trust Automation Engineer to lead the design, development, and evolution of automation across DigiCert’s Trust Office and Security Engineering functions. This role focuses on strategic automation, reducing systemic manual effort, improving security decision quality, and enabling scalable, reliable operations through advanced orchestration, integrations, and AI-assisted workflows.
The ideal candidate has 7+ years of experience in security automation, security engineering, or DevOps, demonstrates strong architectural judgment, and can independently drive automation initiatives from problem discovery through production adoption. This role acts as a technical authority and multiplier, influencing tooling, standards, and best practices across security teams.
What you will do
Primary Responsibilities and Competencies
Architect, design, and lead security automation platforms and workflows that materially reduce manual effort and operational risk across Trust Office teams
Own the end-to-end lifecycle of automation solutions, from requirements discovery and design through implementation, rollout, and long-term maintenance
Develop and review Python-based automation frameworks and services that integrate security tools, APIs, and internal data sources at scale
Build and evolve advanced automation for vulnerability management, alert triage, enrichment, decisioning, remediation orchestration, reporting, and audit evidence generation
Serve as a technical partner and advisor to Security, Compliance, Standards, and Platform Operations teams.
Identify, prioritize, and justify high-impact automation opportunities, balancing risk reduction, efficiency gains, and engineering effort
Design and implement AI/LLM-assisted security automation (e.g., enrichment, summarization, classification, decision support) with strong governance, validation, and security guardrails
Define and enforce automation reliability standards, including logging, monitoring, testing strategies, error handling, and rollback mechanisms
Drive integration and orchestration patterns across SIEMs, ticketing systems, cloud services, and internal platforms
Produce and maintain architecture documentation, runbooks, and technical standards to ensure scalability, consistency, and knowledge sharing
Provide technical mentorship and code review for other engineers contributing to automation initiatives
What you will have
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or equivalent practical experience
7+ years of experience in security engineering, automation engineering, platform engineering, or DevOps
Proven experience leading automation projects from inception to successful completion. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of developing detailed project plans, managing timelines and budgets, and delivering measurable results.
Deep proficiency in Python, API design, and large-scale system integrations
Proven experience architecting and operating security automation in production environments
Strong hands-on experience with automation platforms (or equivalent SOAR/automation tools)
Practical, production experience integrating AI or LLM capabilities into automated workflows with appropriate controls
Advanced experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies, and release management
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Nice to have
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep experience with SIEM platforms such as Splunk, including data modeling and alerting strategies
- Strong familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms, including IAM, logging, and security services
- Experience designing automation that integrates with Jira, ServiceNow, or similar ITSM platforms at scale
- Experience operating in highly regulated environments (SOC 2, ISO 27001, WebTrust) and automating audit and compliance workflows
- Prior experience acting as a technical lead or domain expert for security automation or SOAR initiatives
