About The Role
Job Description Position: In-Charge - Vendor Development (Control Panel Unit) Department Procurement / Supply Chain Reporting To Procurement Head Location Coimbatore Job Summary The In-Charge - Vendor Development will be responsible for identifying, developing, qualifying, and managing suppliers for the Control Panel Manufacturing Unit of Wind Turbine Generators. The role will focus on developing a robust supplier base for electrical, electronic, fabrication, wiring harness, bus bar, sheet metal, battery box, and panel assembly components while ensuring quality, cost competitiveness, delivery performance, and supplier capability enhancement. The position requires close coordination with Procurement, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Planning, Production, and Design teams to ensure reliable sourcing and uninterrupted production operations. Key Responsibilities Vendor Identification & Development Identify and develop new suppliers for electrical, electronic, fabricated, and mechanical components used in control panel manufacturing. Evaluate supplier capabilities, manufacturing infrastructure, technical competencies, capacity, and financial stability. Develop alternative supplier sources to reduce supply risks and improve supply chain flexibility. Maintain an approved vendor list for all major commodities and components. Supplier Qualification & Assessment Conduct supplier audits and assessments before onboarding. Evaluate suppliers based on Quality, Cost, Delivery, Capacity, Technology, and Service capabilities. Coordinate supplier approval activities with Quality and Engineering teams. Ensure suppliers meet organizational standards and customer requirements. Establish supplier performance monitoring systems. Localization & Cost Reduction Drive localization initiatives for imported and high-cost components. Identify opportunities for alternate materials and alternate suppliers. Support value engineering and cost optimization projects. Analyze supplier quotations and commercial competitiveness. Work closely with Engineering and Production teams to reduce overall product cost. Commodity Development Develop and manage suppliers for: Electrical & Electronic Components PLCs Relays Contactors Circuit Breakers Switches Sensors Terminal Blocks Power Supplies Communication Modules Wiring & Harness Components Wires and Cables Wire Harness Assemblies Connectors Lugs Ferrules Cable Glands Cable Markers Mechanical & Fabricated Components Control Panel Structures Sheet Metal Components Bus Bars Copper Components Mounting Brackets Battery Boxes Hardware and Fasteners Custom Manufactured Parts Fabricated Assemblies Machined Components Copper Bent Parts Punching and Tapped Components Assembly Fixtures and Gauges Supplier Quality Improvement Work closely with Supplier Quality and Manufacturing Engineering teams. Support development of supplier quality standards and control plans. Conduct root cause analysis and corrective action reviews for supplier issues. Drive reduction in supplier defects, rejections, and quality concerns. Ensure supplier compliance with specifications, drawings, and process requirements. Technical Coordination Coordinate with Design and Manufacturing Engineering teams for supplier feasibility reviews. Support new product development and engineering change implementation. Review supplier manufacturing processes and identify improvement opportunities. Ensure suppliers can meet technical and production requirements. Delivery & Capacity Management Monitor supplier production capacity and delivery performance. Ensure suppliers can support production schedules and business growth requirements. Coordinate resolution of material shortages and supply disruptions. Support Planning and Procurement teams in achieving on-time material availability. Supplier Relationship Management Build and maintain strong relationships with strategic suppliers. Conduct regular supplier business reviews. Monitor supplier performance through defined KPIs. Support long-term supplier development programs. Encourage continuous improvement initiatives at supplier locations. Risk Management & Compliance Identify and mitigate supplier-related risks. Develop dual-source and backup supplier strategies. Ensure compliance with company procurement policies. Ensure suppliers adhere to quality, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Support ESG and sustainability initiatives where applicable. Documentation & Reporting Maintain supplier databases and approved vendor records. Track supplier performance metrics. Prepare reports on: New Vendor Development Vendor Performance Cost Savings Localization Progress Supplier Quality Performance Delivery Performance Present supplier development status to management. Educational Qualification Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Production Engineering, or related discipline. MBA / PG Diploma in Supply Chain Management or Procurement will be an added advantage. Experience 5 to 10 years of experience in Vendor Development, Strategic Sourcing, Supplier Development, Procurement, or Supply Chain Management. Experience in Electrical Control Panels, Wind Turbine Generators, Switchgear, Industrial Automation Panels, Electrical Equipment, or Heavy Engineering industries preferred.
