POSITION SUMMARY

Carroll Daniel Engineering is seeking an experienced Lead Structural Engineer to join our Design-Buiild dedicated staff. This role leads to the development of structural engineering solutions from early concepts through construction, collaborating closely with operations, preconstruction, architectural, and other engineering disciplines to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and aligned with project schedules.

This position provides structural engineering leadership throughout the full project lifecycle—from design and construction through facility operations. The role carries overall responsibility for the management, coordination, and production of structural engineering design services.

Organizational Relationship

The Lead Structural Engineer operates within the Structural Engineering Department but will exclusively serve the Design-Build Division.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Structural Engineering Specific

Engineer of Record for in-house structural design services

Provide structural engineering evaluations and designs for the repair and remediation of emergency conditions

Provide construction document production (drawings + specifications) as well as marketing material for project pursuits

Provide and deliver required deliverables for construction document milestones

Establish drafting templates and libraries for Design workflows

Support 5D / Model Based Estimating collaboration with Preconstruction

Design of varying structural systems including but not limited to concrete, masonry, wood, and steel for a wide range of building typologies such as industrial, educational, storage, office, and residential.

Knowledgeable of up-to-date construction methodologies and applicable building codes

Experience in construction means and methods especially in the application of technology on a range of project size and complexity.

Demonstrated abilities and relative experience in preconstruction, field management and construction processes.

Preconstruction Process

Support design-build project pursuits, including development of project scope, preparation of proposal deliverables, and participation in client presentations and interviews.

Along with the construction Operations Team Lead, coordinate with Preconstruction and Design to ensure the appropriate Budget is established, all design and preconstruction meetings are conducted, as required.

Work with Preconstruction to analyze alternative design options

Oversee Project Design

  • Coordinate closely with civil, architectural, and MEP engineering disciplines to develop integrated building solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with construction, estimating, and engineering teams to ensure design solutions are practical, buildable, and aligned with project budgets.
  • Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and support the team during the construction administration phase.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior engineers and designers.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design standards, workflows, and technical practices within the organization.

Qualifications

REQUIRED CAPABILITIES

Structural Engineer Specific

Technical

  • Strong BIM proficiency (Revit-based workflow required)
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary industrial projects
  • Knowledge of construction document production and CSI specifications
  • Understanding of industrial facility requirements preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • In general, performance of the job has the Structural Engineer operating from an office location vs a project location and will oversee multiple projects at one time.
  • Periodic construction site visits to gather project data and information.
  • Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet project needs.
  • May require short periods of travel (2-5 days)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education: Bachelor’s in Civil / Structural Engineering

Experience

  • 15+ years relevant structural engineering design experience.
  • Previous experience in industrial facility projects is desirable.

Experienced in Design-Build and Progressive Design-Build Best Practices

Navisworks

RamSteel

  • Preparation of CSI specifications, SpecLink
  • Submittal review
  • Understanding of industrial/ process coordination preferred

License

S.E. / P.E. in Georgia, with capability of reciprocity to other states
