About The Role
DescriptionBasic Function
The Truck Driver ensures the safe, timely, and professional movement of merchandise and materials. This includes transporting goods from the distribution center to retail stores, as well as picking up donations from donors. Drivers are expected to provide excellent customer service and represent Goodwill in a professional, courteous manner.
Internal/External Contacts
- Regular interaction with transportation and retail employees.
- Occasional contact with Career Services staff and consumers.
- External contact with donors, customers, and the general community.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a role model for professionalism, strong work ethic, and quality standards.
- Inspect vehicle daily to ensure safe operating conditions; complete inspection reports.
- Report all accidents, damages, or safety concerns immediately and complete required documentation.
- Follow daily schedule and route as assigned by supervisor.
- Drive safely and courteously at all times, following traffic laws and company policies.
- Service donation sites according to schedule, handling all donations carefully.
- Transport unsaleable materials to disposal sites as directed.
- Provide professional, courteous service to all donors, ensuring a positive experience with Goodwill.
- Deliver merchandise to retail stores and agency facilities; verify shipments with store managers.
- Place merchandise in designated areas per manager’s instructions and remove unsaleable items when capacity allows.
- Represent Goodwill positively as a visible and active presence in the community.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Education requirement may be waived based on relevant experience or specialized skills.
Experience, Skills & Knowledge
- Minimum one (1) year of truck driving experience.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Customer service experience required.
- Ability to listen, follow instructions, and ask questions for clarity.
- Working knowledge of the local service area with the ability to read and follow maps.
- Ability to complete safety checks and perform minor truck maintenance.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
- Experience with truck repair preferred.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to work up to 8 hours per day.
- Frequent lifting, loading/unloading, pushing carts, and moving merchandise.
- Extended periods of sitting while driving.
- Must use sound judgment and safe practices when moving heavy items, especially on stairs or without adequate equipment/assistance.
