About The Role

Job Summary: The Subject Specialist will plan, develop, coordinate and implement academic support programs in one or more target disciplines for undergraduate and graduate students at Ontario Tech to impact student success initiatives, retention and overall student experience to the Subject Specialist will supplement the existing curriculum and help students achieve educational success through the development of academic skills and knowledge. The Subject Specialist works in close collaboration with students, faculty and staff across the university to coordinate and promote the development of effective academic skills among students. Responsibilities/accountabilities: Academic Development and Support Provides subject matter support and assistance in a variety of formats to address the unique learning and development goals of diverse undergraduate and graduate students to support their ongoing development, and providing coaching to help students become successful learners. Supports other academic programming in the SLC through collaboration and mentoring with staff, faculty and student staff. Maintaining knowledge of curriculum, textbooks, online resources, and course requirements at Ontario Tech, including strategies for developing critical thinking and problem solving. Academic Skills Programming Development and Coordination Develop and deliver high quality, accessible programming in a variety of formats to promote effective academic skill development grounded in theory and research and designed to address the learning needs of students. Build and maintain relationships with key constituents as well as strategic partners in the Office of Graduate Studies, academic faculties, and Student Societies to facilitate ongoing collaboration and to ensure programming meets students’ needs. Resource Development Contribute to the development of a comprehensive repository of university-level subject matter resources, both in print and digital formats, to ensure students’ access to timely, appropriate and effective subject matter support through research, developing, designing, and compiling resources. Assessment Work with a range of campus partners to formulate Key Performance Indicators for programs and assessing progress toward those outcomes. Maintain records and data to be used in service evaluation.
