About The Role
Duties
(a) To take part in developing the English Language Education curriculum and evaluating its implementation at the secondary level;
(b) To assist in planning and organising in-service professional development programmes for English Language and Literature in English teachers to facilitate the implementation of the English Language Education curriculum and other curriculum initiatives;
(c) To assist in planning and organising territory-wide language activities and developing resources to support curriculum implementation (including the production and dissemination of learning and teaching resource materials, and examples of school practices for English Language and Literature in English);
(d) To take part in conducting and monitoring curriculum innovation programmes, projects, research and evaluation;
(e) To review English Language textbooks and learning and teaching resource packages;
(f) To provide subject-related professional services and to participate in subject-related committees and task groups within and/or outside the Bureau;
(g) To develop, promote and implement language enhancement measures;
(h) To perform administrative duties related to the day-to-day operation of the English Language Education Section; and
(i) To undertake any other duties assigned.
Entry Requirements
(a) A Hong Kong bachelor's degree in English Language, English Studies, English Literature, English Language Education or Translation, or equivalent [see Note (ii)];
(b) A certificate in education from a Hong Kong tertiary educational institution, or equivalent [see Note (ii)];
(c) Met the language proficiency requirements of 'Level 2' results in the two language papers [Use of Chinese (UC) and Use of English (UE)] in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE), or equivalent [see Note (iii)];
(d) A pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test [see Note (iv)];
(e) At least 6 years' relevant post-qualification [as specified in (a) and (b)] experience in English teaching and/or curriculum development [see Note (v)];
(f) Possess a Hong Kong higher degree in English Language, English Studies, English Literature, English Language Education or a related discipline relevant to the work of English Language Education preferred [see Note (ii)];
(g) Experience in the teaching and/or curriculum development of English Language and Literature in English at the senior secondary level preferred;
(h) Good knowledge of the local education system and the curriculum reform as well as current trends in English Language education in both local and international settings;
(i) Good leadership and interpersonal skills; and
(j) Be responsible, self-motivated and enthusiastic; have a fine character and integrity; be committed to serve in the education field; and be able to communicate effectively in Chinese and English.
Pay
$83,975 per month
Terms of Appointment
Successful candidates will be employed on non-civil service contract terms for 2.5 years.
