About the Role:
As Manager, Product Pricing, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial architecture of our life insurance product portfolio. Key Responsibilities:
Pricing Strategy & Market Analysis
- Conduct in-depth analysis of market trends, competitor pricing strategies, and internal cost structures to develop forward-looking pricing recommendations for both new and existing products.
- Monitor industry developments, regulatory changes, and macroeconomic factors that may influence product pricing and profitability.
- Translate market and customer insights into actionable pricing positioning that balances competitiveness with sustainable margins.
Incidence Rate Development
- Lead the development and refinement of incidence rates, drawing on internal experience data, industry benchmarks, and reinsurance inputs to ensure actuarial assumptions are robust and defensible.
- Regularly review and update assumptions in line with emerging claims experience and evolving risk profiles.
Pricing Model Development & Maintenance
- Design, build, and maintain sophisticated pricing models and databases that support accurate product costing, scenario testing, and sensitivity analysis.
- Continuously improve modelling tools and methodologies to enhance efficiency and accuracy, leveraging VBA and other analytical tools.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Product Development team to understand customer perceptions, distribution dynamics, and price sensitivity across different channels and segments.
- Collaborate with Actuarial, Finance, Legal, and Compliance teams to ensure pricing frameworks are financially sound and meet all regulatory requirements.
- Support the articulation of pricing rationale to senior management and external stakeholders, including reinsurers where applicable.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Establish and maintain pricing performance dashboards and reporting frameworks to track actual vs. expected performance.
- Identify and escalate emerging pricing risks or profitability concerns, and recommend corrective actions in a timely manner.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all pricing activities adhere to internal pricing policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Maintain thorough documentation of pricing methodologies, assumptions, and decision rationales to support audit and governance processes.
Operational & Project Support
- Contribute to day-to-day pricing operations, ensuring timely turnaround on pricing requests and queries from internal stakeholders.
- Actively participate in strategic projects and new initiatives as directed by management, including product launches, market expansions, and system enhancements.
- University degree in Actuarial Studies, Mathematics, Finance, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Qualified actuary or near-qualified (e.g., Fellow or Associate of a recognised actuarial body such as HKIA, SOA, or IOA), with a clear progression plan for completion.
- Demonstrated experience in pricing life insurance products within a direct insurer or reinsurer environment.
- Proven track record in developing and pricing innovative products, with exposure to protection, savings, investment-linked, or health product lines preferred.
- Familiarity with reinsurance negotiation and treaty structures is an advantage.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced), Word, and PowerPoint; hands-on experience with VBA for modelling and automation.
- Knowledge of actuarial pricing software or statistical tools (e.g., R, Python, Prophet) is a plus.
- Solid understanding of financial modelling, product profitability analysis, and embedded value concepts.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to distil complex quantitative analysis into clear, actionable business insights.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence in presenting recommendations to senior management and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented, intellectually curious, and commercially minded — able to balance actuarial rigour with pragmatic business judgment.
- Self-motivated team player who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
