About The Role

# Full Stack Software Engineer

> Compass Education · North Sydney, Australia (Hybrid) · Full-time · Posted 2026-07-30

**Workplace:** hybrid

**Department:** Product

## Description

**Come shape the future of education with us.**

At Compass, we're transforming the way schools manage their day-to-day operations - from finance and payments to communication, events and administration. Clipboard, part of the Compass ecosystem, is transforming how schools manage extracurricular programs - from registrations and attendance through to communications and payments - helping schools run sports, music, clubs and everything else outside the classroom.

We combine the pace and ownership of a product-focused engineering team with the scale and impact of a broader education technology ecosystem supporting thousands of schools globally.

We're now looking for a Junior / Mid Software Engineer to join our Clipboard team!

**About the Role & Team**

You'll join a small, cross-functional product engineering team building Clipboard. It's a role that blends hands-on development with judgement: understanding the problem you're solving, deciding what's worth shipping, and growing into bigger design and architecture calls over time.

**What you'll do:**

At Clipboard, you will

  • Take on well-scoped pieces of work and carry them from ticket to production, working closely with your Product Manager and fellow engineers - growing toward owning a whole component as you find your feet, with senior engineers alongside you for bigger design and architecture calls.
  • Write and review clean, well-tested code - there's no dedicated QA function, so quality sits with you.
  • Deliver incrementally using feature flags and staged rollouts, shipping value to customers early and de-risking bigger changes.
  • Document meaningful technical decisions using lightweight Decision Logs.
  • Get hands-on with our AI tooling: prompts, skills, agent harnesses and in-repo context files.
  • Take part in code reviews, both giving and receiving, as a core way to grow your craft.
  • Work with our support team to triage and resolve production issues.

## Requirements

**About You**

We're looking for engineers across the junior-to-mid range - from early-career engineers with around a year's experience through to those with a few years under their belt - who bring curiosity, a genuine interest in AI-assisted development, and an eye for quality. If you're passionate about writing clean code and love getting to the root of a problem, we want to speak with you!

You bring

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Hands-on experience with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or similar), with a clear sense of where AI helps, where it doesn't, and what to do about it.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Solid CS fundamentals and a real interest in the whole lifecycle - not just writing code, but testing, shipping and supporting it in production.
  • Familiarity with, or the aptitude to quickly pick up, our tech stack: Node.js, TypeScript, Angular, PostgreSQL, AWS (incl. Lambda, ECS Fargate), Nx monorepo, Buildkite, Jest, Storybook and Playwright.
  • Curiosity about the product and the business, not just the code.
  • An eye for quality that catches slop before it ships: unnecessary abstractions, duplicated logic, subtle bugs, and code that passes tests but misses the mark.
  • A habit of digging in - the instinct to trace a problem to its root before reaching for a solution.
