About The Role
mimic is an early stage deep tech robotics & AI start-up based in Zurich and supported by leading VCs. We give industry workers a helping hand for tedious manual labour tasks and mitigate labour shortages with a versatile automation platform. Our automation solutions, driven by dexterous robotic hands and cutting edge AI trained on human observations, bring a new level of AI embodiment to the real <world. As> an Applied AI Engineer, you will bridge the gap between our core AI research and real-world customer applications. You will take AI methods and training recipes developed by our research team and apply them to new robotic tasks — owning the process from data collection and training through evaluation and deployment.Beyond individual customer applications, you will help turn our AI capabilities into repeatable, scalable workflows by developing the tooling and functionality needed to train, deploy, monitor, and continuously improve our models.Responsibilities Apply existing AI methods and training recipes to new customer tasks and robotic applicationsOwn model training runs, evaluation, and iteration to improve performanceMonitor training data quality, coverage, and collection progressDevelop tooling and workflows around existing AI models to make training, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement more scalableTranslate learnings from customer projects into requirements and improvements for our AI capabilities and product workflowsUnderstand the capabilities and limitations of our robotic systems and help assess the technical feasibility of new customer tasksCollaborate with AI, robotics, product, and commercial teams to take new applications from initial concept to reliable operationRequirementsBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, Engineering, or a related technical fieldStrong software engineering skills and proficiency in PythonHands-on experience working with AI/ML systems, including model training, evaluation, data pipelines, or deploymentExperience with modern ML frameworks such as PyTorchAbility to understand existing AI methods and codebases and apply them effectively to new problemsStrong understanding of the relationship between training data, model performance, evaluation, and iterationAbility to build practical tooling and workflows around AI models rather than only developing models in isolationStrong ownership and ability to independently drive technical work from problem definition through implementationComfortable working in a fast-moving environment where problems span AI, software, robotics, and real-world operationsStrong communication skills in EnglishNice to HaveFamiliarity deploying AI models on real robotic hardwareExperience working directly with industrial customers (e.g. automotive, logistics, manufacturing) and operating in production environmentsCompensation & BenefitsWe offer a total compensation package including a competitive yearly base salary and a strong stock option package to make you part of our shared <success. You> will have the opportunity to shape a robotics & AI company from the ground up. In flat hierarchies you will work directly with the founders and some of the best talents in the robotics space. At mimic, you are accepted for who you are.
