JOB TITLE: Advanced Automotive Technician (Tech 2)
Department: Repair/Quality
Location: Newark, CA
The Automotive Mechanic is responsible for inspection, repair and diagnostic services. You will work on computer systems diagnosis, electrical troubleshooting, and mechanical/electrical component replacement. You must have the ability to explain technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanical individuals which may include other associates and customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform difficult repairs and work specified repair orders with efficiency and in accordance with dealership and/or OEM standards
- Diagnose and repair vehicle automotive systems including engine, transmission, electrical, steering, suspension, brake, air conditioning, etc. to specification
- Explain mechanical diagnoses and required repairs in a non-technical manner to management and customers
- Determine needed repair activity and perform repair
- Perform standard part replacement and capable to complete actions by following the action SMP
- May be required to lead small groups of other technicians without pay adjustment
- Continuously learn new technical information and techniques in formal training sessions in order to stay abreast with rapidly changing technology
- Inspect and test new vehicles and recording findings so that necessary repairs can be made
- Work will be performed in a manufacturing facility and can include working on the assembly line
- Other duties as assigned by management
- Build/assemble state of the art automotive prototype vehicle and test benches
- Diagnose, maintain, and repair vehicles and test bench systems
- Work efficiently within a multidisciplinary cooperative environment on prototype, pre-production, show, and production vehicles.
- Apply critical thinking skills to work without instruction, manuals or workbooks
- Working with engineering to fabricate and/or modify system and subsystem components
- Maintain a high knowledge level of high voltage, low voltage, and general electric vehicle systems
- Drive vehicles to evaluate vehicle health status, test features, collect data, to support cross functional team in development and production environment
- Follow systematic processes, document potential issues and improvements, and contribute to enhancing team efficiency
- Help team to create and develop service and maintenance documents (service manual procedures, containments, etc.).
- Ability to problem-solve both Technical and Process-flow issues
Qualification/Requirement
- Current driver's license; clean driving record
- Pass a criminal background check and drug screen
- Work assigned schedule which may include multiple shifts, weekends and holidays; work overtime when required
- Arrive to work on time
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Valid US driver’s license
- Preferably have experience with OEM
- Advanced digital skills required
- Team oriented, flexible and focused on maintaining a high level of customer service
- Working knowledge of shop equipment such as diagnostic equipment, AC equipment, etc.
- Automotive technician degree, certification or equivalent work experience
- Own and bring your own professional automotive toolbox
- 5 years Automotive Technician or relevant experience, with preferably 2 years Luxury Automobile Technician experience
- Must possess a valid driver license with clean records (DMV record will be obtained periodically)
- Exhibit an unwavering commitment to safety and exceptional attention to detail

- Passionate about delivering exceptional customer experience, exhibiting excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Thrive in a dynamic environment and adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Understanding of Electrical schematics and capability to create simple test boards
- Working knowledge of CAN communications
Preferred / Advantageous
- Skilled in fabrication (welding, milling, lathe) and wire harness building (soldering, crimping, splicing) etc.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and travel for work to other facilities, showrooms, test tracks, and testing routes (this is not a regular daily requirement)
- 1-year electric vehicle technician experience
- 1 years ADAS related experience including diagnosis, repair, calibration, etc.
- Senior technician, master technician, or team lead experience
- Hold OEM Master Technician Certification, EPA 609 Certification, or ASE Certification(s)
- Professional Race team experience
Environmental Requirements
- May be exposed to extreme temperature changes and noise
- Some duties performed outside in all weather conditions
- This is a physically demanding position
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, move product, equipment and supplies up to fifty (50) pounds
- Must be able to work at heights up to 20-25 feet
- Regularly stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during shifts of 8+ hours
Experience/Education
- Must obtain a high school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years of automotive repair experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
