About The Role

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a hands-on and reliable Workshop Technician to take ownership of our mechanical workshop and help turn ideas into real, testable hardware quickly. This role is central to how we build, prototype, repair, adapt, and improve physical systems. You will be responsible for keeping the workshop running smoothly, ensuring tools, machines, materials, and build processes are ready when needed, and helping create a workshop environment that is organized, safe, efficient, and built for fast iteration.

You will work closely with the hardware team, joining build-planning discussions to understand what needs to be made, how best to make it, and what tools, fixtures, parts, or processes are required. From there, you will make it happen — preparing parts, building prototypes, reworking assemblies, supporting tests, maintaining equipment, and continuously improving how the workshop operates.

This is a ground-floor role with real ownership. As the company scales, you will help shape the workshop, its tooling, machines, processes, and standards, becoming a key part of how we move from engineering concepts to reliable physical hardware.

The day-to-day

Workshop ownership: Ensure the workshop always enables rapid prototyping and development by keeping the shop organised, stocked, safe, and ready so engineers can walk in and immediately be productive

Build & rework: assemble and rework mechanical and electromechanical prototypes from technical documentation and engineer input, turning changes around fast to keep test cycles moving

Build partner: sit in on test and build-planning sessions, think through the approach with engineers, then execute it, and feed real build experience back into the next iteration

Inventory control: own component stock, reorder points, and day-to-day supplier follow-up so builds are never blocked waiting on parts

Machine operation: run workshop machines starting with FDM 3D printing, and take ownership of new capabilities like SLS/Laser Cutter/CNC as they come online

You should apply if you

You've completed a technical apprenticeship or degree, ideally in

Mechatronics (Mechatroniker)

  • Industrial mechanics (Industriemechaniker)
  • or an equivalent mechanical / electromechanical field
  • Are confident building, assembling, and reworking hardware from the bench up, with a genuine tinkering mindset
  • Comfortable working independently from technical drawings and specs
  • Are organised with inventory, stock, and workshop order, and never the bottleneck on parts
  • Can spot what needs doing and run with it, and enjoy close, daily collaboration with engineers in a fast-moving environment
  • Have a valid licence for van transport to and from test sites
  • Language skills: English is required; German is a plus
  • Nice to haves
  • Hardware background: prototype experience in UAV / drone, robotics, automotive, aerospace, or defence environments
  • Shop & additive skills: FDM / SLS 3D printing, basic electronics and soldering, machining, fabrication, or running a workshop or stockroom
  • Hands-on mindset: technical hobbies like RC, drones, robotics, 3D printing, or model making
