Course Name and Number: Sessional Lecturer – NUCL 4700U – Nuclear Power Plant Systems Design - Fall 2026 Number of Sections : 1 Appointment Type : Limited Term Salary Grade : Administered in accordance with Appendix A of the Sessional Lecturers Collective Agreement with PSAC Location of classes: Oshawa, Ontario Course Start Date: September 8, 2026 Course End Date: December 23, 2026 Reporting to the Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, the Sessional Lecturer will provide instruction to undergraduate students. Course Description: NUCL 4700U – Nuclear Power Plant Systems Design Introduces the main design and operating features of nuclear power plants using pressurized and boiling light water, pressurized heavy water and gas cooled reactors; small, medium and large reactors; unit control schemes; shutdown and safety systems; reactor cooling, shutdown and emergency core cooling systems; steam generator design features, level and pressure control; turbine and generator design; feedwater systems; unit electrical, service water and air systems. Responsibilities/Accountabilities: The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (prepare and) teach a theoretically and methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the upper-year undergraduate-level within the parameters of the course description listed above. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments which may be delivered in a hybrid format. The course will be delivered in an in-person, on-campus format, and the Sessional Lecturer will be expected to deliver the course from the assigned classroom at Ontario Tech. The Sessional Lecturer will be responsible for preparing, delivering and grading all course material and student assessments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session. The Sessional Lecturer will also prepare content for weekly tutorials. Learning objectives and outcomes are expected to be described in a course outline/syllabus and will be provided. Timely marking of assignments and other assessments, and the use of marking rubrics, is expected. The Sessional Lecturer will also support program accreditation activities pertaining to the course.
