We are one of the largest producers of frozen at sea flatfish, cod, pollock and other groundfish, and distributes seafood throughout the world. North Star Fishing Company is hiring an Assistant Cook to work aboard the F/T North Star, an at-sea processing vessel that fishes off the Coast of Alaska. Assistant Cooks are responsible for preparing family style meals and baking for crew on the vessel. Managing the cleanliness and maintenance of the ship accommodations daily and as required.
Requirements
- Standing 12 hrs/day for 7 days/week
- Self-motivated team-player
- All candidates subject to a post offer pre-employment drug test, medical and background screen.
- Must be able to provide two positive recent references from previous employers
Duties
- Prepares meals as assigned for the crew and others on a daily basis using kitchen equipment, tools and supplies stored in dry storage, refrigerators and frozen storage areas.
- Cooks food in quantities according to menu and number of crew to be served
- Prepares breakfast and midnight meals on a daily basis
- Bakes breads and desserts
- Plans menus with Head Cook to best utilize inventory
- Assists with inventory and ordering as requested by Head Cook
- Assist in loading and unloading of food and other supplies into various storage areas located on various levels of the vessel.
- Cleans kitchen area, equipment and tools after each meal to sanitation standards
- Oversees Housekeepers in the performance of their duties on shift
- Encourages and fosters good relationship with crew to ensure mealtimes are enjoyable.
Benefits
- Company travel policy agreement: Successful completion of 5 consecutive fishing trips grants eligibility for airfare/hotel expenses, between the vessel and Seattle, to be paid by the company. Each fishing trip averages 12-18 days and can be more or less dependent on fishing conditions.
