About The Role

Position Title: Payroll Specialist I Division: Business & Financial Services Reports To: Coordinator of Accounting Services Salary Schedule: FS-PS1 Work Days: 244 Days FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Essential Duties: Key withholding tax and direct deposit information to support payroll processing. Calculate deductions, to include garnishments, court orders, and tax levies. Calculate overtime rates for specific department employees and assist in the process of entering data for hourly and overtime pay. Work closely with schools and departments to ensure accurate and timely reporting of timesheets. Monitor vacation and absence reports and record necessary activity in the payroll records. Examine and check documents for conformity with district policies and federal and state laws and regulations. Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records. Perform computer data entries to record, update, and retrieve department information and to prepare spreadsheets, reports, and correspondence. Receive, review, prepare, and/or submit a variety of documents such as change forms, timesheets, absence reports, retirement forms, insurance bills, expenditure request forms, Social Security forms, direct deposit forms, tax forms, W-4s, checks, check registers, deduction registers, payroll registers, voids and manuals, memos, correspondence, etc. Perform general clerical work as necessary, including answering the telephone, creating reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, ordering supplies, etc. Provide exceptional customer service on a daily basis and maintain professional practices. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Required Qualifications: Minimum of a High School Diploma or state-approved high school equivalency (HSE); vocational/technical diploma in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or specialized application preferred. One to two (1-2) years of Payroll or Human Resources experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities required. Ability to apply basic bookkeeping principles in the maintenance of payroll under minimal supervision. Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community. Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation. Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators. Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work. Ability to be present at the physical worksite. Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations. Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
