About The Role

Job Title: Hostel Support Officer – Permanent Hours: 37 hours per week – Monday to Friday Salary: £32,061.00 - £34,434.00 Gosport Housing Services are looking for someone to join our generic team within the housing needs & advice section who can provide housing‑related support to residents within the hostel, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and progression towards independent living. The post holder helps residents access services, maintain their accommodation, and develop the skills needed to sustain future tenancies. The person will need to have experience of working in a busy homeless hostel environment and will be required to complete security and safety checks, respond to emergencies, adhere to fire safety, and safeguarding. You will need to have experience in completing risk assessments and managing risk. You will need to have experience of supporting people with complex needs including: - mental health, trauma, substance misuse and challenging behaviour. Have knowledge of homelessness, trauma, substance misuse, mental health, welfare benefits and tenancy law. Have an understanding of income collection and debt management. You will have knowledge of Health and Social Care Act and its relevance to vulnerable adults. You will need to demonstrate a commitment to excellent customer service coupled with a positive attitude to understand and resolve problems. Strong numeracy and literacy for budgeting, report writing and support planning. Ability to work under pressure, prioritise effectively and maintain accuracy. You will need to be a strong communicator with skills to motivate, influence and build trust to affect a positive change in behaviour. Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to actively listen and show empathy are essential. Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a frontline service environment. Good IT literacy including Microsoft Office and case management systems.
