POSITION SUMMARY
This role is part of the Mechanical R&D and Industrialization team and is responsible for the mechanical development and industrialization of new power converters. The Mechanical Engineer will contribute throughout the product development lifecycle, from definition of the mechanical architecture and detailed design to prototype build, validation, production readiness, and release to manufacturing. The role combines mechanical design expertise with a practical understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, assembly methods, cost, quality, reliability, and regulatory requirements to deliver robust, safe, and manufacturable solutions.
The role works closely with electrical engineering, product management, compliance, sourcing, quality, suppliers, manufacturing, and service teams to translate product requirements into effective mechanical solutions, resolve technical issues, and support a smooth transition from concept to serial production.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop the mechanical architecture of new power converters, translating product and system requirements into robust design solutions.
Create and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings, bills of materials, technical specifications, and engineering documentation.
Design sheet-metal parts, structural frames, busbar supports, cooling interfaces, component mountings, enclosures, and assembly solutions.
Select materials, manufacturing technologies, tolerances, fasteners, and joining methods based on performance, cost, quality, and production-volume requirements.
Apply design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly principles to improve product quality, repeatability, serviceability, cost, and assembly time.
Perform mechanical calculations and tolerance analyses and support structural, thermal, seismic, transportation, and other relevant design verifications.
Participate in design reviews, DFMEA, risk assessments, and technical decision-making throughout the product development process.
Plan and support prototype builds, laboratory tests, design verification, product validation, and implementation of corrective actions.
Lead the mechanical industrialization of new products, including assembly-process definition, tooling and fixture requirements, work instructions, pilot builds, production readiness, and ramp-up support.
Collaborate with manufacturing and suppliers to assess process capability, resolve producibility issues, and qualify components and production solutions.
Support root cause analysis and troubleshooting of mechanical issues identified during development, qualification, production, or field operation.
Ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, regulatory, and industry standards.
Manage product data and design changes within the product lifecycle management system, ensuring configuration and documentation accuracy.
Communicate progress, technical risks, open issues, and proposed solutions to project stakeholders and management.
QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS
Degree in mechanical engineering or similar fields.
At least three years of experience in mechanical design and product development within an electromechanical environment, ideally involving power converters or other power electronics equipment. Experience with medium-voltage systems is considered a strong advantage.
Proficiency in PTC Creo is essential, including the creation and management of complex 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings.
Knowledge of PLM systems is highly desirable, particularly PTC Windchill or Oracle Agile EC, including product data, BOM, document, configuration, and engineering change management.
Strong understanding of mechanical safety and regulatory standards.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Fluent English communication skills.
PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
