About The Role

Greywright is hiring an Associate Mechanical Engineer to help build out and improve on mechanical designs for autonomous vessels, turning engineering concepts into precise, buildable designs. You will be the team's CAD expert, building and managing the 3D models, assemblies, and drawings that take mounts, enclosures, structures, and payload integrations from idea to fabrication.

You will work alongside our senior mechanical engineer, mechanical engineer, and naval architect, learning marine design from experienced engineers while owning the CAD for real hardware that goes to sea.

What you'll do

  • Build and maintain 3D CAD models and large assemblies for vessel structures, equipment mounts, enclosures, and payload integration.
  • Produce fabrication-ready drawings with clear GD&T, tolerances, and bills of materials.
  • Iterate quickly with engineers, turning sketches, markups, and requirements into clean, manufacturable designs.
  • Manage CAD data, including part numbering, revision control, and PDM/PLM workflows.
  • Maintain and improve CAD standards, templates, and part libraries for the team.
  • Prepare models for analysis, 3D printing, machining, and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Support FEA and design reviews under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Work with machine shops and fabricators to resolve build questions, and help assemble and install hardware in the shop and on the water.

What you bring

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Marine, or Ocean Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1–4 years of mechanical design experience, including internships, co-ops, or engineering project teams.
  • Expert-level skill in SolidWorks and/or Autodesk tools (e.g., Inventor, Fusion 360, AutoCAD), including large assemblies, sheet metal, weldments, and surfacing.
  • Strong drawing skills and working knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-ups.
  • A portfolio of hardware you have designed and built, from work, school, competition teams, or personal projects.
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods such as machining, sheet metal, welding, and 3D printing.
  • Hands-on attitude and comfort working in the shop and on boats.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time when needed.
  • This role requires access to ITAR/EAR-controlled data; U.S. person status is required as defined by 22 CFR 120.62.

Nice to have

  • CSWA, CSWP, or Autodesk professional certification.
  • Eligibility to obtain a U.S. Secret or higher security clearance; an active clearance is not required.
  • Experience with PDM/PLM systems (e.g., SolidWorks PDM, Autodesk Vault).
  • Exposure to FEA tools (e.g., SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS).
  • Familiarity with marine materials, corrosion, and sealing.
  • Experience on student competition teams (e.g., RoboBoat, Formula SAE, Solar Splash).
  • Background with uncrewed or autonomous vehicles.
  • Meaningful early-stage equity.
  • Great health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Unlimited vacation.
