Shipping and Receiving Associate

Job Summary:

The Shipping and Receiving Associate safely operates forklifts to move materials or equipment, ships and receives goods, and prepares proper documentation as required.

Essential Duties

• Examine shipment contents and compares records to verify accuracy.

• Reads or prepares proper shipping, receiving and inventory documentation records

• Prepares finished goods for shipping.

• Prepares shipping documents. Helps contact carrier representatives to make arrangement of shipping.

• Successfully completes Rule Steel forklift operator certification training and carries operator card at all times.

• Safely operates forklift to move machinery or material, load trucks, unload trucks, place materials in appropriate storage area or in production areas.

• Uses and maintains required personal protective equipment as outlined in the Diamond Z Safety Manual.

• Understands and follows all Diamond Z safety policies and procedures.

Other Duties

• Cleans and organizes work area.

• Appropriately disposes of scrap material and waste.

• Assists with special projects as assigned by supervisor

Qualification requirements

• Ability to reach over and around objects to lift, move, or place objects or materials

• Ability to successfully complete Rule Steel’s forklift operator certification training.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.

• Ability to occasionally lift objects weighing over 50 pounds with assistance.

• Ability to see in order to safely operate forklift and read instructions or other documents.

• Ability to sit for extended periods.

• Ability to stand, bend, squat, kneel, climb, push, pull, reach above shoulder height, and reach below shoulder height.

• Ability to handle, place, manipulate, operate, stack, and connect equipment and materials through fine and basic hand skills.

• Ability to use hands and fingers repetitively to steer for extended periods.

• Ability to verbally communicate with coworkers and supervisors in a safe and productive manner.

• Ability to understand simple math functions such as counting, adding and subtracting.

• Ability to use and read a measuring tape.

• Ability to work extended shifts to meet business demands.

• Ability to pass a preemployment drug screen.

Working Conditions

• Temperature and humidity variances consistent with normal outdoor ranges. Climate control in the facilities is limited. Will require working outdoors.

• Air contaminates such as exhaust fumes, smoke, and dust may be present but are below the recognized TLV.

• The presence of electrical and compressed air sources.

• The presence of bottled gas and oxygen.

• The presence motor fuels, oil, and hydraulic fluids.

• The presence of chemicals.

• The presence of moving equipment, lift trucks or other vehicles.

• May be subject to cramped working conditions in some cases.

• Exposure to flying particles, hot metals, or molten metal.

• Exposure to light radiation from welding or plasma cutting.

• Exposure to sharp edges and points on steel and abrasive tools.

• Exposure to falling or rolling steel.
