About The Role
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Manager based in Brazil.
Lead a cross-functional engineering team building technology that powers modern delivery and logistics <operations. In> this role, you will manage a team of four to seven engineers, taking ownership of people development, hiring, delivery, and engineering <processes. You> will partner closely with product management to balance roadmap priorities, technical health, and reliable execution.A key focus will be advancing AI-powered, agentic software development practices while maintaining high standards for code quality, testing, and production <reliability. You> will use meaningful delivery and quality metrics to identify bottlenecks, guide coaching, and continuously improve team performance. This opportunity is ideal for a technically experienced leader who empowers engineers, encourages constructive challenge, and builds a culture of accountability and continuous learning. The position is remote, with regular working hours aligned with US Pacific Time.
Accountabilities:
As Engineering Manager, you will lead the team's people, technical execution, and delivery practices while remaining hands-on without becoming a bottleneck. You will work closely with engineers and product partners to ensure predictable delivery, continuous improvement, and high-quality releases.
Lead and develop the team: Manage four to seven engineers through regular one-on-ones, honest feedback, career development, performance reviews, and timely, fair action when challenges arise.
Own end-to-end delivery: Plan work with the team, make commitments visible, remove blockers, monitor progress, and represent engineering in planning and product meetings.
Partner with product management: Collaborate daily with the product manager to prioritize initiatives and balance roadmap commitments against technical health and long-term maintainability.
Advance agentic engineering practices: Coach engineers on planning, directing, reviewing, and verifying work produced by AI coding agents. Improve workflows as tools evolve and share effective practices across teams.
Maintain technical involvement: Use AI agents in your own development work, review pull requests, and maintain strong technical judgment without making delivery dependent on your personal coding output.
Hire and retain talent: Lead structured hiring processes, identify strong candidates, and support the continued growth and development of existing team members.
Champion engineering quality: Establish and reinforce developer-owned testing and quality controls. Ensure flaky tests are treated as failures and that teams take responsibility for the quality of the features they deliver.
Use data to improve performance: Monitor delivery and quality metrics to identify bottlenecks, inform coaching, and guide process changes while considering team context and individual circumstances.
Encourage continuous improvement: Create an environment where engineers can challenge existing practices, contribute ideas, and help shape the team's engineering workflows.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate combines substantial hands-on software development experience with proven people management, delivery ownership, and practical expertise in AI-assisted engineering. You should be comfortable leading an international team, making informed decisions, and maintaining high standards through coaching and clear processes.
People management experience: At least three years managing software engineers who formally reported to you, including responsibility for hiring, one-on-ones, performance reviews, and performance decisions. Technical leadership or coordination without direct reporting responsibility does not meet this requirement.
Software development experience: At least five years of hands-on professional software development experience before or alongside management responsibilities.
AI coding agent expertise: Demonstrated, fluent daily use of AI coding agents, supported by practical examples such as custom orchestration workflows, agents, skills, or substantial customization of an existing team setup.
Agentic workflow leadership: Experience actively driving team adoption of AI-powered development workflows, rather than simply allowing engineers to use these tools.
Coaching and performance management: A proven ability to develop engineers through career growth and difficult situations, including addressing underperformance early and fairly.
Delivery ownership: Experience managing software delivery from planning through production, taking accountability for commitments, and identifying and resolving delivery bottlenecks.
Engineering quality leadership: Evidence of establishing sustainable quality practices, including developer-owned testing and reliable quality gates. Examples may include fewer escaped defects, improved production observability, fewer incidents, or practices that continued after your departure.
Product collaboration: Experience partnering closely with product management to make prioritization decisions and balance business needs with technical considerations.
Communication skills: Excellent written and spoken English, approximately C1 level, and experience collaborating daily within an international team.
Additional experience valued: Experience in roles such as software developer, SDET, QA analyst, manual tester, or Scrum Master; leading agile ceremonies; improving team delivery practices; managing remote teams across time zones; or working in logistics, delivery, or marketplace environments.
Technical familiarity: Experience with technologies in the team's ecosystem, including TypeScript, Node.js, React, Rust, and AWS, is advantageous.
Quality practices: Familiarity with developer-owned testing, test-driven development, refactoring, and production observability is a plus.
Location and schedule: Based in Canada and able to work reliably on a schedule that frequently overlaps with US Pacific business hours, typically 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Time.
Benefits:
Competitive compensation: For candidates based in Canada, the annual base salary range is CAD 140,000–190,000, with placement depending on experience and qualifications.
Remote work: Work remotely from Canada.
Flexible paid time off: Access flexible PTO to support personal needs and work-life balance.
Work-from-home support: Receive a laptop and a stipend to help set up your home workspace.
Monthly technology stipends: Receive support for internet expenses and AI development tools.
Inclusive workplace: Join an environment committed to equal opportunity, diverse perspectives, and fair employment practices.
Accessibility support: Accommodations are available throughout the recruitment process, including for identity verification and camera requirements.
