University of New Mexico · Albuquerque, NM, US
About The Role
The Division of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Preventive Medicine within the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico (UNM) is seeking a Clinical Research Manager to oversee the implementation and coordination of clinical research trials conducted at UNM sites. These studies, primarily focused on people who use drugs, are funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Clinical Trials Network, the State of New Mexico, and the pharmaceutical industry. The Clinical Research Manager will be responsible for coordinating day-to-day study operations, monitoring study calendars and timelines to ensure milestones are met, supervising research staff, collaborating with medical providers, and maintaining relationships with community stakeholders and partner organizations. Responsibilities will also include maintaining regulatory documentation and conducting research activities, including informed consent, participant recruitment and retention, and data collection. Successful recruitment and retention are particularly important in research involving people who use drugs and other populations experiencing barriers to research participation. This position requires strong interpersonal and organizational skills, cultural humility, and the ability to establish and sustain collaborative relationships with community organizations, clinical providers, government agencies, and other stakeholders. The Clinical Research Manager will also serve as a primary liaison between UNM study teams and external research partners, including lead study teams, clinical coordinating centers, and data coordinating centers. Responsibilities will include coordinating database updates, supporting data quality assurance and control, collaborating with external study monitors, facilitating internal study meetings, and managing study team schedules and communications to ensure adherence to protocol requirements and study timelines. This position will be based at the SURGE building on UNM's North Campus, with regular travel to UNM-affiliated and community-based clinical sites as needed. The Department of Internal Medicine is a large, progressive department with a diverse staff working in dedicated teams to provide quality work in an organized, effective, and efficient manner through innovation, training, and education. Through our collaborative work effort, we support the faculty and enhance the missions of the department, school, Health Sciences Center, and University.
