Roadway Lighting & Electrical Civil Engineer

A roadway lighting and electrical civil engineer designs, plans, and installs power systems, streetlights, traffic signals, and underground infrastructure for roads, highways, and public spaces. Lighting Design: Calculates uniform illuminance and luminance levels to remove dark spots and improve night driving safety. Electrical & Control Systems: Designs power distribution, feeder pillars, control cabinets with photocells/timers, and circuit layouts (such as alternating A/B circuits). Civil & Structural Layout: Plans pole foundations, conduit runs, pit/pull-box placements, and trenching relative to kerbs and utility lines. Standards & Compliance: Ensures designs meet local road authority rules (such as Department of Transport and Main Roads [DTMR] or energy distributor specs like Ergon and Energex in Queensland).
