Java Backend Engineering Team Lead

Join our team as a Java Backend Engineering Team Lead. In this role, you will be responsible for the overall backend ecosystem across the organization, combining people leadership with ownership of backend architecture, standards, and delivery quality. You will work closely with the Head of Engineering and Chapter Leads to ensure all key decisions and initiatives align with the broader engineering vision. Your responsibilities will include defining and driving the backend vision, ensuring consistency in backend application development, leading and supporting backend engineers, and driving key people processes for the team. You will also build a strong backend community, drive recommendations for continuous improvement in team performance, and ensure backend delivery is predictable, scalable, and high quality across teams.

• Define and drive the backend vision across teams, ensuring consistency in how backend applications are built and maintained.
• Lead and support backend engineers, ensuring efficient and impactful delivery of initiatives while driving team engagement, efficiency, and growth.
• Own and drive key people processes for the team, including hiring, onboarding, offboarding, performance reviews, and compensation cycles.

• Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and influencing technical direction
• Strong experience with Java stack (SpringBoot, Liquidbase, etc.)
• Proven experience leading backend initiatives across multiple teams
• Solid understanding of Java and Postgres performance, database modeling and risk analysis
• Experience defining architecture and driving adoption at scale
