Reports to: Lead, Commercial Underwriting & RI Solution
You will support the Commercial Underwriting and RI Direct stream through underwriting submissions, proposal preparation, placement coordination and documentation. Working with commercial, technical and actuarial colleagues, you will gain exposure to insurance and reinsurance opportunities across RI Direct and Partnership.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Gather, organise and check risk information, identifying missing details and coordinating requests to prepare complete underwriting submissions.
  • Prepare draft submissions, proposals and supporting documents for review by the Commercial Lead and relevant technical colleagues.
  • Support the review of coverage, policy terms and pricing inputs under supervision, referring technical questions and approval matters to the appropriate lead.
  • Coordinate information requests and follow-ups with insurers, reinsurers, brokers and internal stakeholders to progress opportunities and placements.
  • Maintain accurate case and placement trackers, recording progress, outstanding requirements, deadlines and next actions.
  • Support placement documentation, ensuring agreed terms and required approvals are accurately recorded and retained.
  • Produce regular case-status reports, highlighting outstanding actions, delays and matters requiring escalation.
  • Collaborate with technical underwriting, actuarial and Partnership colleagues on assigned cases, following priorities set by the Commercial Lead.
  • Improve submission templates, checklists and tracking processes to strengthen accuracy and delivery efficiency.
  • Follow underwriting guidelines, internal approval procedures and confidentiality requirements throughout the submission and placement process.

Requirements

WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU:

  • A diploma or degree in Insurance, Business, Finance, Economics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Strong numeracy and the ability to interpret basic business and insurance information.
  • Working proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Clear written and verbal English, with the ability to provide concise updates and request information professionally.
  • Strong attention to detail, including the ability to check information, identify omissions and maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines and follow established approval procedures.
  • Ownership and follow-through in completing agreed actions, with timely escalation of delays or outstanding requirements.
  • A demonstrated interest in insurance and reinsurance, willingness to learn through supervised work and openness to feedback.
  • Sound judgment in recognising uncertainty and referring decisions outside your authority.
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to handling client and counterparty information with integrity and confidentiality.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Three to five years of experience in underwriting, insurance operations, broking, actuarial support or financial services.
  • Progress towards a recognised insurance qualification.
  • Familiarity with policy wording, insurance submissions or reinsurance documentation.
  • Exposure to data analysis, reporting tools or workflow automation.
  • Experience coordinating information requests and follow-ups across multiple stakeholders.
