About The Role

We offer a research assistant (RA) position starting between January and March 2027. The project will investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms underpinning fungal meningitis, with a particular focus on γδ T cells as well as other subsets of innate and innate-like lymphocytes. More specifically, we will use an in vivo mouse model of fungal meningitis to understand the importance of type 1 and type 3 γδ T cells in controlling infection.
The position is in close collaboration with Professor Rebecca Drummond at the University of Birmingham, UK, and is part of a consortium comprised additionally by Associate Professor David Meya at the Makerere University College of Health Sciences, Uganda, and by Professor Nanna MacAulay at the University of Copenhagen.
You will join a dynamic and international team that utilizes in vivo mouse work and human clinical samples to understand the development of γδ T cells and their importance in various diseases, such as cancer and inflammation. Technically, our work is heavily focused on flow cytometry andsingle-cell RNA-sequencing and as a successful candidate you are expected to be and/or become an expert in both. The team has a strong ethos of direct collaboration and you will be often asked to help with and be involved in other projects as a result of helping your colleagues.
The group is part of the Section for Experimental and Translation Immunology at the Department of Health Technology. Our section has all the necessary infrastructure and comprises of diverse teams with multiple technical and theoretical expertise.

Required qualifications:

  • You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree
  • Demonstrable experience (through publications or thesis work) with mouse immunology
  • FELASA B certification or equivalent that licenses work with mice in Europe is necessary.
  • Demonstrable experience (through publications or thesis work) with multi-parametric flow cytometry
  • Demonstrable experience (through publications or thesis work) with isolation and culture of mouse lymphocytes from various organs
  • Basic skills in molecular biology and biochemistry (e.g. cloning, gene expression, protein identification)
  • Basic skills in microbiology
  • Analytical skills including analysis of multi-parametric flow cytometry and experience with R
  • Experience with single-cell RNA-sequencing, in particular analysis of data would be an advantage.

Applicable responsibilities:

  • You are expected to be able to organize and perform experiments, and critically analyse data
  • You are expected to demonstrate techniques in students and new members of the lab
  • You will have to present in lab and section meetings frequently
  • You will have frequent meetings with the group leader
  • You are expected to be part of larger experiments not in direct association with this project
  • You are expected to contribute to basic lab maintenance
