Postdoc in Direct Air Capture (DAC) - DTU Chemical Engineering
DTU Career Site · Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark
About The Role
We are looking for a skilled postdoc to join our Direct Air Capture (DAC) research group. Direct Air Capture and Power-to-X technologies are expected to play key roles in achieving net-zero emissions and supporting the green energy transition.
As a postdoc at DTU Chemical Engineering, you will contribute to the development of next-generation DAC technologies. Specifically, we are working on projects that improve the energy efficiency and scalability of CO₂ capture directly from ambient air through advanced process integration and innovative regeneration concepts. We collaborate closely with both national and international research and industry partners to accelerate the deployment of DAC solutions.
We are currently building a world-leading research group in carbon removal and air capture technologies. The scientific field of Direct Air Capture is rapidly expanding, and we expect strong growth in the coming years. Our research spans fundamental measurements of material properties, laboratory-scale experiments, process and thermodynamic modelling, systems integration, and pilot-scale operation. Through this work, we aim to develop efficient, cost-effective, and scalable technologies for atmospheric CO₂ removal.
Responsibilities and qualifications
As postdoc, you will support tasks in several different projects. You will work with a team of PhD-students, laboratory technicians, associate professors and project managers at DTU. Furthermore, the projects have significant industrial participation and you will often participate in meetings with industrial project partners.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conduct modelling, experimental, and pilot studies on Direct Air Capture (DAC) processes and technologies
- Evaluate and optimize advanced electrochemical membrane technologies on Direct Air Capture (DAC)
- Publish research findings in leading international scientific journals
- Develop and contribute to funding proposals at national and international levels
- Supervise BEng, BSc, and MSc student projects related to DAC and carbon removal technologies
- Support and co-supervise PhD students within the research group
We expect you to have:
- Good understanding of the Danish/European visions and strategies within the green transition
- Publication(s) and knowledge within electrochemical CO2 technologies
- Excellent scientific communication skills and dissemination via scientific publications
- Ability to work effective in interdisciplinary research teams - collaborating with national and international partners
- Excellent communication skills and ability to inspire students
- Availability to start early 2027
- Experience in design and evaluation of electrochemistry in cells, stacks, and process configurations for DAC applications
- Experience conducting experiments and analysing electrochemical performance through using data from a pilot plant - identify opportunities for future improvements such as lower energy consumption, scalability and robustness
As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
