About The Role

The Tax manager is responsible leading the tax strategy, compliance and reporting for American Tower Corporation’s South Africa operations.
Registered SARS tax practitioner

  • Liaise and support with SARS queries
  • Prepare responses to SARS on provisional taxes and annual returns
  • Facilitate the timely submission of all administrative tax matters to SARS.

Tax Technical & Strategy

  • Conduct research on tax legislations and tax accounting pronouncements and their impact on the organization.
  • Ensure tax accounting and reporting in accordance with IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles),
  • Position self as a subject matter expert on tax matters for finance team
  • Identify and assist in the implementation of opportunities for process and system improvements, automation solutions, tax operational efficiencies and industry best practices.

Forecasting and Budgeting

  • Summarize, analyze and present provisional tax forecasts, budgets and 10-year cash forecasts
  • Ensure timely payments to tax authorities as applicable

Compliance & Reporting

  • Indirect Taxes: Prepare, review and timely submit tax returns and related filings (e.g. VAT, withholding)
  • Transfer Pricing: Support transfer pricing analysis and documentation
  • Direct Taxes: Prepare and record tax provisions, deferred tax calculations and related tax accounts on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Direct Taxes: Prepare and timely submit annual tax returns and related documents

Internal Control

  • Perform internal tax reviews and ensure implementation of tax controls related to South Africa tax operations
  • Lead the upkeep of control documentation, and support the finance team with tax accounting queries from external auditors

Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with global and regional finance teams to gather, validate, and analyze financial data required for tax compliance, strategy and forecasting activities
  • Partner with finance, accounting, treasury, legal, and FP&A teams to identify tax impacts of business transactions and support accurate assessment of tax implications
  • Coordinate with Internal Audit, Controllership, and external auditors to support tax audits, SOX compliance, and internal control requirements
  • Work closely with external tax advisors to assess complex tax matters, mitigate risk, and drive effective tax planning and compliance outcomes
  • Tax Specialization degree
  • CA(SA) or Masters in Tax equivalent

Experience

  • Five to eight years’ work experience in South Africa Tax
  • Experience in using an ERP system for financial processing and analysis (Oracle experience would be advantageous)
