Electrician II - Facilities Services - UTK

The Facilities Services Department is responsible for the maintenance and operations of all campus facilities which include buildings, grounds, and utility systems.The Electrician II installs, operates, and maintains electrical systems and equipment for the UT Knoxville Campus.He also works as necessary to help contractors and other crafts.The Electrician II also trains craft assistants as needed. This position provides good customer service to internal and external customers. The Electrician II will support electrical needs for events and special occasions.

• Pulling wire and making up panel boards and other electrical equipment
• Bending, threading, and installing conduit as necessary
• Maintains lighting systems and controls of various types.
• Maintains panelboards and switchboards of various types and sizes.
• Maintains transformers, motors, and generators.
• Troubleshooting, maintaining, and installing electrical systems and related components.
• Working special events, continuing education, assisting contractors and other crafts, etc.
• Studying blueprints, taking off materials, and picking up materials for projects.
• Required Education:
• Trade school in industrial electricity with two years’ experience or four years as a journeyman electrician.
• Required Experience:
• Experience bending conduit, pulling wire, working on live electrical equipment.
• Experience leading others in the performance of the craft.
• Experience in the use of all craft tools and equipment.
• Experience working with other crafts.
• Experience with U.T. Physical Plant procedures.
• Experience working within the confines of a large university campus setting.
• Some training or experience in electronics.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

A good working knowledge of electrical systems.

The ability to read blueprints and choose materials.

The ability to work on live electrical components when necessary.

The ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, under adverse conditions, and in high places.

The ability to perform hard physical work for long periods.

Good hand and eye coordination.

Mechanical aptitude and good knowledge of industrial electricity.

• Valid Driver’s license
• Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment-based visa status.

UT Facilities Services is responsible for the care and keeping of more than 300 facilities and utilities systems in and around Knoxville. As the University of Tennessee Knoxville’s largest non-academic department, team members are responsible for facilities maintenance and repair, custodial needs, landscaping and lawncare, utility work, in-house and capital construction projects, facilities planning and design, environmental initiatives, pest control, campus event services, and facilities administration functions for both the flagship campus and the agricultural institute.
