About The Role
Saint Mary’s College is seeking a detail-oriented and service-focused Staff Accountant to join the Finance team for a one-year limited-term appointment. Under the direction of the Assistant Controller, the Staff Accountant will support the day-to-day accounting operations of the College by preparing accounting worksheets, performing account analysis, assisting with monthly closing activities, and providing general support to the Finance team.
The Staff Accountant will work collaboratively with members of the Finance team and budget managers across the College to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and properly recorded. This position provides an excellent opportunity for an accounting or finance professional to contribute to the College’s financial operations while working in a collaborative and service-oriented environment.
The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a focus in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Three to five years of related accounting or finance experience, or recent college graduate with relevant education and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage ongoing projects, programs, or assignments.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to prepare accounting worksheets, reports, and other financial information accurately and ensure amounts reconcile to appropriate source documentation.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and members of the public.
- Ability to provide professional and courteous customer service and project a positive image of Saint Mary’s College.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work while completing assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a higher education, nonprofit, or institutional finance environment.
- Experience assisting with monthly financial close processes and preparation of journal entries.
- Experience performing account reconciliations and analysis and identifying potential adjusting journal entries.
- Experience working with budget managers to review and reallocate expenses.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including experience working with financial data and spreadsheets.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new financial systems, processes, and procedures.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a collaborative Finance team.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing responsive, professional, and service-oriented support to colleagues across the College.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist the Finance team with monthly closing activities, including preparation and entry of journal entries.
- Perform account analysis and identify and propose appropriate adjusting journal entries.
- Prepare and maintain accounting worksheets, reports, reconciliations, and related financial documentation.
- Work with budget managers to review and facilitate the reallocation of expenses as needed.
- Assist with various accounting and clerical functions in support of the Finance team.
- Respond to telephone inquiries in a courteous and professional manner, answer questions when appropriate, direct calls to the appropriate individual, or take accurate messages.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation.
- Complete assigned tasks, projects, and special assignments accurately and within established timelines.
- Provide professional and courteous service to students, faculty, staff, and members of the public.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday through Friday, during regular College business hours.
Contract Term: This is a one-year limited-term position. The appointment will conclude at the end of the one-year term unless otherwise extended by the College.
Work Authorization
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and must not require visa sponsorship from Saint Mary’s College, either now or in the future.
