Assistant/Instructional Professor - Philosophy

Pittsburg State University invites applications for the position of Assistant Instructional Professor of Philosophy. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses in philosophy, ethics, and logic, as well as upper-division courses on topics within philosophy. The ability to teach an introductory course on world religions would be viewed positively. The normal teaching load is four classes (12 hours) per semester. The appointment will begin in January 2027. This is an on-site, in-person position located at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Duties and Responsibilities

Teaches a variety of general education and upper-division undergraduate courses in Philosophy

Provides service to the university, college, and school

Exhibits a commitment to student success

Participates in recruitment and retention efforts

Delivers assigned courses through in-person instruction on campus unless otherwise directed by Pittsburg State University

Maintains regular on-campus office hours in line with Pittsburg State University and department guidelines

Education and Experience

A master’s degree, or be ABD, in philosophy or a related discipline

Demonstrate teaching effectiveness
Candidates must hold a master's degree in philosophy or related discipline. This degree requirement is necessary for accreditation purposes and to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.
