What are we looking for?

The Geotechnical Special Project Manager is responsible for managing transportation projects for the local DOT team from initiation through completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time and meeting client expectations. The role requires regular communication with client representatives to obtain project requirements, coordinate activities, and maintain a clear understanding of project scope, objectives, and workflow. This position reports to the Regional Chief Engineer and will travel an average of 15% of the time.

What you'll do

• Perform geotechnical engineering evaluations and analyses using standard engineering principles, procedures, and design criteria
• Prepare preliminary geotechnical engineering reports, recommendations, and supporting project documentation
• Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and technical work plans
• Prepare work assignments, task orders, and related project deliverables
• Attend client meetings and coordinate with project stakeholders regarding technical requirements and project progress
• Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and internal project teams
• Manage multiple assignments simultaneously while meeting project deadlines and quality expectations
• Conduct site visits, field observations, and inspections as required
• Maintain compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards
• Provide guidance and leadership to on-site team members to resolve issues

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering (required)
• Professional Engineer (PE) License (required)
• 5+ years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience supporting transportation projects (required)
• Strong experience with geotechnical engineering modeling using FEA software, such as Plaxis or similar (required)
• Proficiency with geotechnical engineering software including GeoStudio, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, SLIDE, Settle3D, and MSEW(required)
• Ability to read, interpret, and understand engineering plans, specifications, and technical documents (required)
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills (required)
• Ability to work off-shift hours and overtime as needed (required)
• Ability to travel an average of 15% of the time, as needed (required)
• Valid driver's license and reliable driving record (required)

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications

• Advanced experience managing geotechnical engineering projects for transportation and infrastructure clients (preferred)
• Project management experience (preferred)
• Experience working directly with TxDOT standards, procedures, and project delivery requirements (preferred)
• Experience conducting field investigations, inspections, and construction support services (preferred)
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and client relationships simultaneously (preferred)
