Reports To: Production Supervisor / Team Leader

Working Pattern: Shift work, including weekends and public holidays, with overtime as required by operational and production requirements.

JOB PURPOSE

To safely and efficiently operate and monitor bread slicing and bagging equipment, ensuring that products are correctly sliced, packed and coded according to required production, quality, food-safety, MECP and safety standards, while maintaining continuous product flow and achieving production targets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Slicing & Bagging Operations

• Operate and monitor slicers, baggers, conveyors and related equipment safely and efficiently.
• Set and adjust equipment to achieve required product specifications and throughput.
• Ensure bread is correctly sliced, packed and sealed with minimum product damage and waste.
• Verify correct packaging materials and product specifications are used.
• Monitor equipment for abnormalities, jams and defects and report/escalate immediately.

• Quality, Coding & Food Safety

• Conduct routine quality checks and ensure products meet required specifications.
• Verify correct batch/date coding and ensure codes are clear, accurate and legible.
• Identify, isolate and report non-conforming product.
• Maintain GMP, HACCP, food-safety, hygiene and product-integrity standards.
• Prevent contamination and foreign-material risks.

• MECP – Clean as You Go

• Apply the MECP (Clean as You Go) principle throughout the shift.
• Keep equipment, conveyors, floors and work areas clean, organized and free from product build-up and waste.
• Clean spills and product remnants immediately.
• Follow cleaning schedules and work instructions.
• Maintain the workstation to the required MECP and hygiene standards.
• Ensure the area is handed over to the next shift in a clean, safe and production-ready condition.

• Production & Equipment

• Achieve planned production targets and maintain efficient product flow.
• Minimize downtime, product losses and packaging waste.
• Complete required production and quality records accurately.
• Perform authorized operator checks and basic adjustments.
• Report equipment faults and assist Maintenance during breakdowns and planned maintenance when required.

• Health & Safety

• Comply with all safety procedures and PPE requirements.
• Never bypass or interfere with machine guards or safety devices.
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses and equipment defects immediately.
• Follow applicable lock-out/tag-out requirements.
• Maintain a safe working environment.

• Teamwork & Communication

• Work effectively with Production, Quality and Maintenance teams.
• Participate in shift handovers and communicate production, quality and equipment issues.
• Follow reasonable instructions from the Supervisor/Team Leader.
• Support colleagues to maintain smooth and efficient production.

SHIFT, PUBLIC HOLIDAY & OVERTIME REQUIREMENT

The employee is required to work according to the approved production roster, which may include day/night shifts, weekends and public holidays. The employee may also be required to work overtime from time to time due to production requirements, operational demands, breakdowns, maintenance, increased production volumes or other business needs. Such work will be managed in accordance with applicable company policies, employment agreements and legislation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Grade 12 or equivalent preferred.

Previous bakery, food manufacturing or production experience advantageous.

Experience operating slicing, bagging or packaging equipment advantageous.

Basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Good communication, teamwork, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
