Job Description:
This position offers flexible work hours, on an as-needed basis, to provide a wide variety of tasks within the EPWL department.
POSITION TITLE: Student Employee, English, Philosophy, and World Languages Department Assistant
STATUS: Part-time
DEPARTMENT: English, Philosophy, and World Languages
DIVISION: Arts
REPORTS TO: EPWL Administrative Assistant I
CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt
MINIMIUM PAY RATE: $15.00
(Position is FWS Eligible)
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Update bulletin boards in EPWL department and area classrooms.
- Post class cancellation signs for day or evening classes and notify students via phone.
- Contact students enrolled in cancelled sections and suggest other possible alternatives per the direction of department administrative assistant.
- Assist at various department events (English summit, Majors Fair, preparing swag bags, folders, etc.)
- Staff department information table on C-Concourse to pass out flyers and promotional materials to students.
- Assist department faculty and staff during Main Street event to promote various programs.
- Serve as receptionist and answer phones for offices that may be short-handed or during department meetings when no one is available.
- Perform miscellaneous office and clerical related duties: filing, shredding, scanning.
- Assist in special projects that come up throughout the year.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Enrolled in 6 credit hours in the fall/spring semester toward your declared major at JJC.
- GPA of 2.0 or above.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Attentiveness to detail, efficient organizational skills, initiative, and ability to work independently.
- Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with other members of the college and community.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
- Demonstrated multicultural competence.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· Normal office physical demands.
Scheduled Weekly Hours: This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 10 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters.
