Machinist I - 1st Shift

About The Role
We are looking for a talented Machinist to join our 1st Shift team specializing in Manufacturing at our Cummins Drivetrain and Braking Systems Business Unit facility in York, SC.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility by identifying hazards, following HSE standards, using appropriate PPE, and helping create a safe, injury-free workplace.
- Build a strong foundation in machining and tool room operations by completing required classroom and on-the-job training to develop the technical skills needed to become a qualified Machinist.
- Support equipment reliability and uptime by assisting with repairs, maintenance activities, and equipment troubleshooting to keep manufacturing operations running efficiently.
- Maintain high standards of quality and craftsmanship by following specifications, procedures, diagrams, and operating manuals while performing inspections and identifying potential quality issues.
- Contribute to preventive maintenance excellence by providing feedback to maintenance systems and supporting preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts by identifying manufacturing constraints, helping solve problems, and participating in initiatives that improve safety, quality, productivity, and process performance.
- Enhance operational efficiency by maintaining clean and organized work areas, supporting TPM activities, and helping ensure equipment and workspaces are properly maintained.
- Strengthen teamwork and organizational capability by communicating effectively with peers and support teams, actively participating in training and development, and contributing to improvements in quality, safety, material flow, and employee development.
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Collaborate effectively across teams by building strong partnerships with engineers, machinists, maintenance technicians, quality teams, and operations personnel to achieve shared manufacturing and business objectives.
- Communicate clearly and professionally by sharing technical information, project updates, safety concerns, and improvement opportunities in a way that is easily understood by different audiences.
- Maintain a strong customer focus by understanding how tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing processes impact quality, delivery, and customer satisfaction, and ensuring solutions meet operational needs.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning by actively seeking opportunities to develop new technical skills, learn from challenges, and apply lessons learned to improve future performance.
- Invest in your professional development by pursuing formal training, mentorship, hands-on experience, and new challenges that strengthen your manufacturing, tooling, and engineering capabilities.
- Champion safety in all activities by modeling proactive health and safety behaviors, identifying and reporting hazards, and incorporating controls safety principles when working with electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated systems.
- Apply manufacturing and tool design expertise by understanding production processes, selecting and designing effective tooling and fixture solutions, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives that enhance quality, efficiency, and reliability.
- Value diverse perspectives and ideas by fostering an inclusive work environment where different experiences, backgrounds, and viewpoints contribute to stronger collaboration, innovation, and problem-solving.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
- High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
- Minimal or no work experience required.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to read gages and operate all safety devices and read and understand basic gages.
Base Rate: $19.00 - $23.09/hr
